Hmm, by now it occurs to me that half of you all is awake at very strange times.
Ok, besides this irrelevant remark, now an irrelevant question : you have now chosen "DAC Needs 24 bits" (profile) ? and you can use "DAC Needs 32 bits" also ? If so, it seems to me that using 24 is better (more lean) and it sure may change SQ by itself ...
Are you doing some level-adjustments at some frequencies in the software Peter?
No, because I know I'll get the death penalty for it. You might try the 32 bit setting to get it back ? (if you indeed can switch, and it never occurred to me that DACs (soundcards) could digest both).
But keep in mind (and as always) that at playing Attended SQ is not really under my control, and merely under the influence of the GUI. I'll post a topic about that later (new findings) ...
But I'd like you to judge somewhat longer (yeah, you were doing that all night already
) ... What I perceive from that myself (Unattended though) is a far better resolution at the low end. So, less smeared, better followed. The sub woofers are the first to benefit from that, and btw the time I thought they were too slow to follow is long behind anyway. But ... better following means less SPL (hard to explain, but think about better sines and the more a sine is a sine opposed to a square, the less energy it emits -> just math).
So, I sure will not try to talk you into "this is better", but I think it is - but may take some longer listening, and possibly a bit tuning up of the bass section (keep in mind that you may have done so anywhere in the past, the other way around).
I am not sure what music to point you at, but I think I hear it everywhere, mainly in higher frequencies of metal in a bass instrument which seemed to be blown away in earlier versions.
It is difficult too, because it can be very personal, and IMO for sure when one didn't perceive the real merits of bass instruments yet, because it just wasn't possible thus far, it is not uncommon to turn back the bass a Decibel or 6 or more, and be more happy. So, of course I don't need to tell you all this, but bass can be bass sound, and bass can be bass instruments, and bass sound is just not there at all then.
Btw, three days ago or so, for the first time I felt the individual vibes of the low strings of a wing. This is not low at all. But as I said elsewhere (rather long ago) it is my feeling that even a cello should be able to show the individual vibes of her strings. So, the *higher* this works, the better the system works. When this "higher" works, the lower is long behind you because it is so much more easy.
