Additionally about Engine #3 :

I found that not all Device Drivers support Exclusive Mode. Appropriate messages are built in for this.
Besides that, I also found that Devices (or their drivers) do not support the needed Sample Rate. For instance, the device could support 48K only, which is not suitable for 44K1 playback without resampling (which Engine#3 a.o. was made for). It should switch to "Shared mode" and address the resampling engine from Vista, but so far I didn't manage to get it to that (it might be a Vista bug).

Please carefully quote the messages you may receive when you have problems.
