Goodmorning Everybody, Instead of using a second pc for music storage i like to use a NAS. Is that possible and can i access the NAS trough LAN? I do not have Wifi. And can i buy any NAS for this? So XXHighendpc => LAN KABEL => NAS or XXHighend PC => LAN KABEL => Router => NAS https://www.nascenter.nl/product/505162/category-185102/synology-ds115j.html ????

I guess you will still need a second (music) PC to run your Remote Desktop in order to control xxhighend.

II have my music on a NAS. I have a shortcut on my XXHighEnd PC's desktop, and I just drag and drop files from there. Or I can use the "Explore" button within XXHighEnd and add them to the playlist from there. Any NAS will work. I have both a Seagate and a WD My Cloud and they both work fine. Another option is to create a Music folder on your XXHighEnd PC and add or subtract albums to that. It makes for shorter load times and *maybe* better sound. :-) I operate my XXHighEnd PC via RDC on my main media-center Mac Mini.

Hey Arvind Just the way i do it at the moment... Screen with keyboard and mouse.... But that would not be the best way i suppose.

Thanx everybody.... One of the reasons for the NAS would be that i can easily store it in the electricity cabinet. (Meterkast) And it looked a bit to technical for me to install a second pc with a tbalet for remote.... Peter asked me to open a new topic about this so maybe i just should do that.... But first i need to be under the floor for pulling a LAN cable from my music pc to the meterkast.. Il be back

But that's not the way Peter suggests. It's been proven without a doubt that the audio pc( in your case xxhighend pc) gives better SQ without a monitor, keyboard or mouse connected to it.
Is there a problem using a separate music server, it could just as well be a laptop.
I have a NAS which stores my music but it's connected to the music server (a laptop).

Hi Peter, I am trying to understand the advantage of accessing music via LAN. Is it because it can avoid touching either USB bus or ATA bus on the main music player? Supposing the LAN component on motherboard is not using either of the two?
BTW, this is Zheng and 2.08d is playing great on Windows build 20074.

Hi there Zheng, Glad that you got all workng with 10074 ! The idea of today's computer audio is that the audio playing PC should do as few as possible on tasks other than audio. Each device connected (never mind it is totally idle) degrades audio. This is really the long answer. To comply to this, our Stealth PC contains exactly nothing. OK, a CPU and a LAN port. It boots from RAM and when audio plays there is really nothing in there (also no HDD/SSD/USB Pen etc.) but there is a LAN connection. And even that is mostly shut off during (Unattended) Playback. I tried a NAS for high-resolution audio streaming but it didn't work for me, too slow, user experience was not good enough... My advice buy some quiet WDRed 6TB harddisks en put them in Raid 0 en place them in your audio streamer pc (this way you have internal storage = DAS streamer) and use your NAS offline for backing up your music collection, just for in case your RAID 0 collaps In the future when nvm express SSD storage will be cheaper this will be the way to go, but for now harddisks are a better choice I wrote a article about it on my website: http://www.modelpromo.nl/Audio%20Dandy%20Streamer%20Part%205.htm

Congratulations on your nice web site pages. According to our "vision" what you propose is the exact opposite of what we adhere. Btw, personally for me this will never ever be a NAS (for the same reasons you wrote out). But connecting all to the PC playing the audio is the worst ... (we say ) Regards, Peter

The NAS needs a powerful CPU to stream highres, which most cheap 2 and 4 way models don't have. Google for those capable of running Roon core - those are powerful enough.
Besides that, I dont think there should be any difference in SQ from a DAS or a NAS. A disk inside the audio PC is obviously worse (but for now I'm still there).
