So, Peter, my safety helmet is on.

Another surprise.
The difference between preview 10565 and build 10240 is less than expected. (let’s say 5% surplus for 10565)

Build  10565 creates
- more details,
- better separation between the instruments, voices.
- On the David Crosby “Croz” CD Graham Nash is singing on the right channel, which I didn’t hear before. Acoustic guitars sounds great. (metal & gut strings)
- voices and instruments are smaller in volume, a tad too small, sound is overall a little bit anemic.
- room image in depth is smaller
- we have to sit in the sweet spot for listening

Build 10240
-   voices, instruments are a tad  too big in volume
-   the balance of the “sound level” of the drums, other instruments, voices etc. are very near to live.
-   deeper room image

Tomorrow I will buy a 2nd SSD and install 10240 again and wait for XXH 2.03 for a comparision in OSmin mode.

Joachim

P.S. USB driver 1.04 is installed and I'm using the PC for audio ONLY. No remote!

My proposal, test the USB driver 1.04  Happy

Khm,

Joachim, what version did you install & now reporting on?
- 10565 is "Insider Preview" and you mention it in topic heading. 10565 will expire Jun or July 2016.
- 10586 (aka 10586.3) is final & officially released ISO now re-numbered as "10511".

 scratching
Thanks,
George

Hi George,

no risc, no fun.

I activated XXH 2.02 under Preview 10565 now. We'll see what surprises will come up until 2016-06.

Joachim

P.S. The SQ of release 10586 (aka 10586.3) is disappointing (for me).

As Peter wrote a plain installation from a formatted partition is mandatory, otherwise .......... . Great sound here  Happy

Your opening post is mentioning 10586 and it is repeated 3 times - that's why scratching stands.
Now it is more clear that you installed and reporting about 10565, as in topic heading.

Hi,

installed  WIN10 (10240 + 10565) under identical conditions and software (RAM disc and OSmin program with a boot manager on my laptop. )
-   replay is  with 8x AP (16xAP sounds to lean for me)
-   Q1 is set to 6 (not 14)

Under a technical aspect 10565 is the best OS, very detailed, a good balance between instruments etc., pin point location/orientation of the instruments. Most of you know the SQ of 10074 better than me. But what I’m missing is the timbre of all sources. Very analytical SQ with 10565.

With 10565 we are sitting in the recording room, and with 10240 (less details etc.) we are sitting in a concert hall in row 20 or .... .

In short words, I’m missing the musicality with 10565.

Jud wrote a nice comment about musicality here: http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=3029.msg32431#msg32431

Stereophiles interpretation (http://www.stereophile.com/content/sounds-audio-glossary-glossary-i-m#6yiO8DhJblbHEjqE.97 ) is:

musical, musicality A personal judgment as to the degree to which reproduced sound resembles live music. Real musical sound is both accurate and euphonic, consonant and dissonant.

Quote
musical, musicality A personal judgment as

Joachim, maybe this is not personal at all. Why would it be ?
It's only that one person could be more "deaf" than the other. I mean, one person is better capable of interpreting (both live and the reproduction) than the other.

I'd actually like to say that there is one absolute means of comparison only : when we compare against "live music".
"Live music" between quotes because it isn't about a live performance as such, but how instruments sound in real life.

Just my idea about things ...

Btw, I am maybe not responding to respond, but because coincidentally I last night expressed that I now heard the most natural sound ever, from my speakers. I don't recall that I ever said such a thing.
That this was from Windows 8 ... well ... people should not be disturbed about that. If I undo the thing I applied, it is very easy to hear the robots from W8 again.
Otherwise I agree with you that 10565 also exhibits robots. But of another kind. Robots play all exactly equally. 10565 is almost the other way around, including "off key" singing. Recognize ? Anyway, too sterile.
But the cause is something else ... secretsecretsecret

Now I am going to squeeze out XXHE-2.03. swoon

George ... I expected that one ...

No. I am pretty sure that the general consensus will be that W10 is the better one. Even for me in the end. So if I once again may refer to my remark that "W10 is too good for my system" ... for now I'll stick to that.
So say I changed my system. Next though I coincidentally try that on W8 - and now W8 already proves that my appliance works out. That is, to my ears and my mood of the moment(s).

It is only that I dare to put some bets on 10074 as the final winner; I didn't try that for many weeks, but that one is more easy to have right, so to speak.
Also remember what I said at some stage about 10074 :
It smears, is not accurate enough, BUT I could make all right with that Linear PSU I had over for a while;
I changed my system ...
(which is also where I get the general idea that now our systems (not only mine ?) are in turn for some improvement; I called it : a new era has begun).

Regards,
Peter

Nik, looking forward to your verdict on 10074 vs 10565. In an ideal world I would prefer to go with the latter as I don't have to mess about with the system date (not until July 2016 anyway!) and it can be activated directly from an existing W8.1 setup. But if SQ of 10074 is still better than 10565 then so be it!
