To briefly answer to your issues (with my notice that it's really too much to put in one topic) :
How long does it take to load into ram and ready to play music?
2-3 minutes, a bit depending on the PC.
If one leaves the computer on could you leave OS loaded up for next session?
My PC always remains On.
Of course, since I am working on this daily, no boot session survives the 24 hours, but a couple of weeks back in quieter times, I recall that one boot lasted for two weeks or so.
I do find sometimes I'm forced to reboot OS, as xxhighend becomes unworkable after 2 or more hours of playing and changing albums. This would include a mix from 16/44, 24/96 and 24/192 music files.
That is interesting. I mean, it is when you try to tell me that this is explicitly related to Hires playback. So that assumed :
I recognize something of this, and I don't know what it is. But I wrote about it already, maybe 6-8 months back;
When you play Hires, "something" beyond my vision is occupying the PC in a fashion that it needs recovery *after* the playback (of say one album). And this can take 5 minutes easily. Thus, playback ends, and now the PC is quite unmanagable for 5 minutes.
Remedie : Let it come to rest before attempting new Playback.
Anyway, as you see, this is how a subject needs its own topic. Please do if you feel this needs to be solved; hopefully with the experience of others as well we may get somewhere with it.
I see you recommend all external USB connections be avoided now for better sound. Does this include internal?
Yes. But with the notice that shutting off all the internal USB (USB2 and USB3) you won't have USB any more, while most often this is needed. So now add one simple USB Interface card. The fun is that the internal USB can still be (BIOS) shut off with that and the interface card's USB keeps on working.
