This is for Orelo MKII owners using Windows 8.
Load your currently used Filter Settings (do not forget a different gain setting for left and right might you have that in order) and select Filter-7 like you see in below first picture.
Change it from being active as a Boost/Cut filter to an inactive filter by means of setting it to Unitiy.
You see that in the second picture.
Give this to both speakers and again, don't forget a possible different gain you applied to both.
Save these settings with a name which makes clear that the settings are with Filter-7 shut off.
Sit back and listen.
Next, let's have some interaction via this topic over what you perceive for the better or the worse.
I know, we are only with 4 of us ( Windows 8 ), but let's make this our first challenge of how a small communicty can improve a speaker; it was intended like that and this is a real life example.
What's the difference with software or a DAC eh ?

OK, in addition to what has been done in the first post you can do what you see below.
For the first screenshot :
Tick Filter 13, select Boost/Cut and apply what you see in the right hand side.
For the second screenshot :
Tick Filter 1, and change the Q Factor from the 2.30 currently in there, to the 2.05 you see.
Both can not be done separately. Thus apply them both.

Pre to post filter 7 shutoff
I noticed little difference to make a point out here. Ofcourse I was also playing with gain and 0.1 dB seems to make an appreciable difference (now at -2.1 dB). Was not sure if there was something different. Ofcourse I was not willing to try familiar albums, because just did that with the gain trail.
The newer 1/13 was immediately apparent
There is a lack of resolution. A dull bass. Ofcourse some of the instruments get a more physical presence. But not exactly balanced. Sound was similar to my prior monitor speakers which also has a bump in this arena.

2.1 dB gain, we started with 1.5, I increased it to 2.2. Started at the baseline of 26.5/27, now at 24.4/24.9. The (-) sign is misleading ;-)

The gain changes were prior to the filter7. I just added the filter 7 shutoff as you indicated on top of it. Something missing?

Have been playing s few hours (music I don't know very well) with new settings (filter 7 and 13 changes) Not a large change to begin with, but think it is for the better. At least I have been enjoying the music very much, witch is a good sign ) Did try the Ray Brown CD, but I was far away from 100 dbspl, (maybe 80-85 at sweet spot) even at -7.5 db attenuation. Room was vibrating, but maybe not as much as it should. (?) |
