With HT turned off - no error messages anymore at unattended.
RAMdisks works OK as well (XXHE and Playback drive)
And for the disks, I have one WD Blue 2.5" dead already and
another WD Green 3.5" full with music at 38% of health.
Soo, I'm on the market but I don't know whom to believe anymore..
In the meantime second song plays OK, somewhat louder than before I would say. Will fix that with (proper) settings

Anthony, might you read this ... Do you have problems with your Xeon working Hyperthreaded ?
Short answer...don't think so...but I have never tried turning off hyperthreading. I do get one or two of Georges errors in w7, but I have never attributed them to hyperthreading. Firstly, in w7 I do occasionally get the "will only play one track" problem that George reports, but it only seems to happen from the first song of the album. If I play from the second song all of the songs play through. And I don't think that it happens on every album I play. When the problem does occur and only one track plays when XXHE comes back up I notice that the little blue square on the right hand side of XXHE is empty, which I think indicates that the playback engine is not initialised (or something like that). Secondly, in w7 I do get the occasional "Caller J" and "Playback drive full" messages but it seems to correlate to songs with commas or apostrophes or some other unusual symbol in the filename, so I thought it was a filename issue. I have always had this problem with FLAC files but I got around it by converting all my music files to WAV. These days I only seem to have this error if I am trying to play FLAC with unusual filenames that I have not yet converted to WAV. This morning I will turn of my HT and report if it fixes any of these issues. Regards, Anthony |

I should say that I have not reported the"first track only plays" issue because I have only been a couple of days in w7 and I have not been able to identify what the precise conditions are that causes it to happen.

No probs Peter, glad to help.
So, I have two tracks (that I believe you also have Peter): tracks 4 and 6 from the Beatles White Album (Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da and The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill) in FLAC format. If these two tracks are next to each other in the playlist then I get the "Caller J" and "full playback drive" error messages and no playback is possible. If I split them up then I get no messages and the music plays.
If I turn off hyperthreading then those songs can be placed anywhere in the playlist, even next to each other, and things play well without any error messages. So it does seem as though hyperthreading has some effect on the "Caller J" and "full playback drive" messages.
I use the same processor as George, a Xeon E5-2648L which is 8 core that hyperthreads to 16. Peter, I believe that the yellow boxes at the top of XXHE indicate each processor core. After counting 20 boxes there, when there should be 16 (if my presumption is correct) then something is not quite right.
George, how many boxes do you count?

Hey Anthony, I was not actually counting the led's but rather watching (extremely fast) constructors building fantastic stairways over my screen. Sometimes with the red carpet  I found one screenshot with 17 led's but consider it normal as always had one led more than number of cores/threads, as if software is 'probing' for next thread. And glad to learn that Peter found the culprit already.  |

And glad to learn that Peter found the culprit already. Haha, which actually only could happen because we put this to the forum George (so yes, this started with an email). So this was about two bugs in the same part of code, and it reflects more than 12 processor cores. The download below solves that - hopefully (I can not test it <- a lousy 12 cores only). Unzip this over your current XX folder with the notice that it is best to kill/exit AutoHotkey because a new Alt-W is in there too. So especially for Anthony maybe : In Settings there's a new Show Gallery field which behaves the same as Demo Gallery and a track playing goes into the Show Gallery with Alt-W. It also contains "conveniency" improvements for Windows 7 and re-attaching to the LAN which will only reflect those who dynamically shut Off the LAN (it won't go faster, but dealing with it is improved). Let me know whether this helps the FLAC conversion please. Peter Edit Feb. 25 : Download removed because of a problem in there. |
