All,
In the ToolTip of Q4 there's a left over of an earlier "beta" attempt of how this should work, and this is not correct anymore for the final 1.186a. This is about the written special value of 30, which is not special at all.
The focus on that setting (of 30) was about being able to run TaskManager and this is all quite confusing stuff. And, because it is not quite clear what the real impact is on stalling processes (like TaskManager could be such a process), I thought to write out my findings during the development somewhat juiced with today's real life findings.
Notice : this all seems to be about OS bugs (us all driving things to the limits) in relation to how a particular processor type works.
First for the proper context and how to improve interpretation of what's written in the ToolTip of Q4 : What's in there about TaskManager should virtually be about all processes, but I did not notice any (but, what other processes do we look at ?). However, changing the Wallpaper is such a process and it can behave the same as Taskmanager stalling (hence Wallpaper won't appear - maybe only when playback is stopped (!).
If not mentioned otherwise, this is about Q3,4,5 being 1,1,1.
In Windows 7 Taskmanager (etc. !) should always work, but this can not be guaranteed because at first it just never worked. So, that was tweaked and should be ok.
In Windows 8 TaskManager virtually never works. "Virtually" because I think this is related to procesor speed. Mine is 430MHz hence 215MHz per processor core (Hyperthreaded).
When the Dynamical On/Off of the LAN is used, no Wallpaper *can* show with Unattended Playback. This is because the pictures are taken from the source, and the source is down (LAN is shut off). It should be quite harmless when the showing of the Wallpaper is set to On, but still it is better to have it Off in this situation (no attempts will be made now, which attempts would be to no avail anyway).
Prior to 1.186 the Wallpaper in W8 (or W8.1) could not be shown anyway in Unattended, while in 1.186 it can. Still with the 1,1,1 settings it probably won't and possibly this is related to the processor speed. BUT, increasing that speed to let show the Wallpaper will have an adverse effect, AND letting On the showing of the Wallpaper is now wrong (system keeps on trying but it never works).
When it is necessary to use TaskManager, setting Q4 to 2 (or higher) should be enough to let that go. This should be the same for let show the Wallpaper. However, notice that using TaskManager to observe behavior by means of setting Q4 to 2 (and up) is a moot thing, because behavior will be totally different now. A hint : if you want to see cpu behavior with the best chances, select everyhing needed for that (Performance tab) prior to pressing Play.
