So, as the very last of Mohicans I now too applied a USB3 PCIe card (Nec/ Renesas based). I know, I should have been amongst the first to do this, but you don't want to know what all costs just that tad of too much time here. I try do to everything at the same time, but that really can not work.

But OK, since I was up to this anyway because of other reasons (oscillator stuff) I at least finally could do what I wanted to do for such a long time : shut off USB2. Notice that with USB on the MoBo this is bonded to USB3, so I couldn't do it or I had to find another DAC. scratching

But me wouldn't be me if I right after that did not go for the next step : shut off USB3. Haha. yes

I am not 100% sure, but I think I never saw someone attempting just that. And you know, it works. So, all USB shut off in the BIOS, which is only about the MoBo connections - not the PCIe card's.
And no, this will NOT be convenient, although I have a spare USB connection left on the PCIe card. So a USB pen can still go in there (the NOS1 in the other).

SQ ? Didn't try yet for its merits. Anyway what's left to do at this moment is re-shutOn everything and disable it in Device Manager first and after that shut it off in the BIOS again (this tends to be the better route).

Anyone already tried to shut off all USB from the MoBo ?

Hi Peter,

The config that you are setting is what I use here.

PCIe USB 3, with Mobo USB 2 & 3 disabled in Bios. Here disabling the Mobo USB cleans the top end up a small amount, well worth doing.

I do (shut off all USB 2 and USB 3) in Windows, leaving only the PCIe card working. I have been doing just that for many months now. I don't deactivate USB through BIOS though. This is only because I don't have a PS2 mouse and it could be problematic...

On the other hand, I use Esata for whatever drive I connect on my music PC... With 9b there were 2 of them, with 9d I am left with the external OS drive, powered by a iFi iUSB power supply...

If I continue to remove things in my PC, I will need to attach it to something else, otherwise any airflow will have it falling Wink

Hi Peter,

I shut off every mobo port in the BIOS except the PS/2 for the keyboard and mouse and the LAN by which I transfer new music files across to my SSD as they are ripped (I then unplug the LAN cable).

Since switching to the ASUS mb, I've found the native USB3 mb port much smoother sounding than my Renesais based PCIe USB3 card. I'm also using a data only usb cable.
