Peter, I can't be 100% sure, but I think it is still possible to get W8 licences. I would just double check with the selling people to be sure of course. On Amazon for instance... And there is always W2012 for the adventurous  I have read many posts about its qualities... Regards, Alain |

And there is always W2012 for the adventurous I have read many posts about its qualities... So, are we all now going to spend 400 euros on an OS ? maybe not. Also maybe don't believe any "over hyped" expressions from guys which do not set a reference for you. Or any "Phils" (AKA Joe's) who think they got somewhere by means of friggling something together we have working in XXHighEnd for years by now. Or assume a command prompt (Dos Box) only for the better working OS ... with the notice that when there is no user interface at all for the playback software that you may tend to not dislike any lacking interface. Or ... that by now W2012 is W2012 R2 which is W8.1. Or that -when diving deeper- people don't like W2012 R2 either. See ? It is not *that* easy.  Peter |

Hi Peter,
I've done the server 2012 thing with jplay before coming across to the nos1 xxhe combo. Server plus phils software really worked well for what it was but I must say that you are well ahead with your software Peter and the way that it manages the pc. There is zero need for server in my opinion. The thing that I am enjoying here is the balanced, thoughtful approach to improving digital music reproduction.

But now we are as far as this (someone else but me "stating" this), it sure would be true that W2012 Core again provides better options. And, as Alain knows through private email I sure plan to work on that (have W2012 and such). But the mere point really is :
a. To me is seems that people can get enthusiastic over a W2012 (R2) which is free for 180 days only and next it takes 400 euros or whatever to obtain it for real;
b. I am working on in my view far more "efficient" (yes) lean OS subjects since about the beginning of 2013.
Regarding the latter, accidentally Alain knows about this too (secrets are not secrets to really everybody) and I think he will agree (but doesn't need to). This is a huge project which can't consume all of my time, but since a few days only it got accellerated just because this stupid W8.1 thing and that we can't get native W8 anymore (very soon definitely). So to unveil only a little part of this latter : How can we supply XXHighEnd PC's with Windows 8 with no means to reinstall in emergency situations because for formality only a W8.1 DVD is provided (normally paid for).
Accidentally this whole project comes together now and who knows maybe today I have achieved one big step of that.
Back to that project ...
