Day before yesterday late night, Ciska read something on the iPad, and said "is that him !?"
She referred to a name Bobby Carter of which name undoubtedly far too many exist for it to be true. But it was true. This was about the Bobby Carter we met in the US back in 2008. One night long mainly on that porch you see below, right across the Mississippi River with only a railroad and a narrow road in between. He's the guy in the white shirt. The one holding the beer must be me.
Bobby was doing "China business". Leds you know, *that's* the future. And Bobby dragged a super spotlight right out of his car. 2000 Watts or so. All with leds. Never saw such a thing.
From the porch each passing car was stopped by means of shining the spot light into the car, and for maybe two hours we had the biggest fun, Bobby telling he was the police and what people were doing out there so late. And whether they had drank something of course. And that with a beer in the hand. And each time victory ... "See ? leds really really work !!".
And the cars which did pass by, were heading for a party at the neighbours ...
It was maybe 2am when we decided to go to that party ourselves. Mind you, a wedding party. Well, at first I did not dare to because uninvited and total strangers (we were both just spending the night in that former plantation house which was a guest house and we met right that evening there as guests). But at the moment Bobby convinced our son (of then 9) to come with him, I decided to come along;
I envisioned all those movies where the same thing happens and FBI agents or James Bond himself sneak into such a wedding party.
Our clothes did not fit any party (see picture), but right at the entrance we started to make up all sorts of wild things which made the guards believe us and let us through. Next step was getting our first drink, and for that too we had to make some manouvres. Think like walking back to the guard whether he could guide us to the drinks please - which he politely did.
The first next drinks after that became easy, but of course we asked the guard whether we could take something with us for him. That kind of thing.
We spent two ours or so at that party, and we became familiar with the family. We ended up making photos with people's own camera, just because we were on the side lines, happily singing along with the music. Nobody we had to dance with, so what else to do.
I even had the idea we were "making" that party ... No, I am sure of it.
Last spring I was in Thailand with the family. One thing I learned there quickly was that karaoke is banned by most places because it is so super disturbing to the Thai themselves. Well, half of them and the other half can't let go. Large signs may announce "No Karaoke here !".
We loved Thailand and especially the people. It is said that Thailand is inherently dangerous. Maybe it is but we did not notice that.
Please have a brief look at this and might you read it, think of what I just said, and who Bobby is. How he is.
