I have problem playing downloaded HDTracks file:
* original file: FLAC 24/44, 24/88, 24/192
I converted the files using dBpoweramp to WAV 24/192 and only the FLAC file with 44, 96 and 192 can play on XXH, all other with original FLAC 24/88.2 converted to 24/192 can not play.
Converted to the same source sampling can play, so FLAC 88,2 convert to WAV 88.2 is OK.
Any suggestion how to play HDTracks FLAC 88,2 converted to WAV 192? The problem if the play list has mixed sampling files, WAV 88.2 & 192, and the DAC setting is on 192, the music played at double speed on 88.2 files.

After converting the FLAC 88.2 to WAV 88.2, I tried to convert again from WAV 88.2 to WAV 192, also will not play on XXH-7.2.

Sorry for the bad English as it is not my mother language. Do my best unhappy.

Didi

Hi there Didi, welcome here !

What to say ? It seems obvious to me that this is a DBPowerAmp problem. Well, not really, because the HDTracks files are wrong in the base (I know), but I don't think this is something which should be (or possibly even can't be ) solved in XXHighEnd.

A tip maybe :
Suppose these files play in Foobar. Then there's a fair chance if you convert them via Foobar that after that they will be OK.

But before we make this too difficult ...
Are you sure that there's any benefit in this ? I mean, when you let upsample XXHighEnd the 88.2 (etc.) files to 176.4, are you sure that sounds worse than when you do this with your off line procedure ? It can be, but it would not be my guess ...

Let me know,
Regards,
Peter

Thanks for your swift response.
The problem is, if the play list have mix sampling 88.2 - 192, on the play list I can't see that the file is 88.2 and suddenly I got double speed. That's the problem I faced.

That's why I tried to convert again from 88.2 to 192, but it didn't work.

My HDTracks files are mixed between all my other files which are 24/192.

The best why to play from play list is only to have all the same sampling.

Cheers,
Didi

Hi Didi,

If it is your problem that suddenly a track is thrown at you at double speed, then maybe it is a kind of solution for you to now allow Format Changes (see Settings in the DAC section) ?

I did allowed format change!
This was happened:
Play list: 1st file 24/192 and 2nd file 24/88.2
At the 2nd song I got double speed.

Maybe you have to solve this problem: format mix allowed! or delayed so that the DAC have time to change to 88.2 or if the format is not the same.

If I played 24/192 and then stop, and played further a 88.2 file, XXH did not play (no sound, but went to unattended), and I stopped and play again, and it works. Maybe the reason was that the DAC was still on 192, and on the second play the DAC already switched to 88.2.

I hope this information will bring some lights.

cheers,
Didi

Hi Didi,

As more often, I stopped understanding what this is about now. Are you now saying that you better had not posted your first post in the topic because it doesn't make any sense, or did you find a new problem ?

I want to believe what you told about in your last post. BUT, in order to believe that, I won't believe a single word of what you told about in your first post. The other way around is also okay, but that doesn't seem logical to me.

Btw, both can be true also, but the chances are too small.

So, what is this about ?
1. DbPowerAmp Upsampling which can't deal with HDTrack files ?
2. Your DAC which can't deal with sample rate changes ?
3. XXHighEnd making a mess of things I never saw and others don't report either ?
4. A combination of 1 and 2 ?
5. Both 2 and 3 ?

Please read again both your own posts and explicitly denie what in the end is not true - if any.
With all this, always keep in mind that XXHighEnd itself can easily do things wrong. But it has to be in the proper context - hence I must be able to see what it is about. Now I can not.

Thank and regards !
Peter

PS: When I talked about switching OFF "Allow Sample Rate changes" I meant to offer this as a (weak) solution. So, then you won't run into tracks playing at the wrong speed. But music will just stop then ...

That's a hard word that I did not expected from you.
I only want to share my experience with HDTracks and maybe it could be a hint to you to make XXH become a perfect user friendly and reliable. Not more and not less. Maybe we both have problem with English.

I always do my best to make a perfect products as possible, that's my nature. Sorry.

Any healthy critics are always welcome to me and take it with thanks.

So better I close the HDTracks issue to not make things more worst.

I am just another XXH user, maybe with more open mind. Happy

Didi

[Start shivering for a maybe ridiculous post ... OffTopic]

Didi !

Those were not meant to be hard words ! But ...
I just could not combine your first post with the other one. Please read it yourself; both will not be true at the same time. That is all I said, and this is the only way I can read it.

It is very easy to read my previous post with a dose of sarcasm, but this was not in there. It was just a reflection of what you said yourself.

Quote
Maybe we both have problem with English.

Maybe ?? hahaha. Make it a fact !

Quote
Any healthy critics are always welcome to me and take it with thanks.

This *clearly* shows that you did not get what I wanted to know. And didn't you read this from me ?

Quote
With all this, always keep in mind that XXHighEnd itself can easily do things wrong.

It tells that with your further testing or rephrasing the problem (which latter in fact is what I asked), you *always* have to take into account that it is XXHighEnd (me !!) which causes the problem. I said this explicitly just BECAUSE you otherwise might think that XXHighEnd never can be the problem. And merely : logically, from that last post will follow that something is wrong in XXHighEnd. So, "fact" for me. But how is it related to your first post ? BOTH WILL NOT EXIST AT THE SAME TIME, and this is why I asked to to be more clear; Write down the problem again. "RESET".

But Didi, and this counts for others just the same, sometimes things are too difficult in the foreign languages. It can be so bad that you use Google Translate to find out what the heck someone has written. I think you do this too. In that case both parties have to be the most careful that something which comes across like e.g. sarcasm, didn't originate from the (you) own text. I think this happened here. So example :

Person says in first post 1+1 = three
Person says in next post that this is so because three - (1+1) = 0.

Peter responds that something has to be wrong, probably in both, because 1+1 is not three but 2. Peter also says that the second post hardly can be related to the first because again a "mistake" is made and it proves nothing to Peter. Please rephrase !

And so it comes forward that the person though that "2" is to be written as "three". A language problem. Not math problem, not a "dumb person" prorblem, but a stupid language problem.
All this requires is that one of both can see through that something like this is happening. "please rephrase !". So, a response (and thinking !) like this is needed, and NOT thinking like "hey, I graduaded in math, so who the hell do you think YOU are eh !?".

It really is through that sometimes "we" communicate through Google Translate. It happened to me very explicitly only 1-2 months ago with maybe 50 emails before I found out that the other guy did not understand one word of English. It went okay for 49 emails before I could notice that already the 1st was understoon wrongly. It was only a matter of the difference between "two week at least" and "no more than two weeks". I said the former, while the latter was translated. And mind you, translated from *my* Dutch-English which is a danger within itself.

In addition there is this other SUPER danger : something I'd call "attitude" of people in countries. Maybe attitude is the wrong word, but it's about the general perception of life and what people expect from the others. It is about this :

Quote
I always do my best to make a perfect products as possible, that's my nature. Sorry.

Coincidentally this is my nature too. But this is also why I can understand how badly wrong, mainly written communication, can go. So, in this case this is (very roughly) European against Asia. It is how easily one can get stepped on the toe (this is a bit of a Dutch expression maybe but which Didi out of all will understand) just because his work or behaviour is not appreciated as expected. This is hard to explain and let me add carefully that for people from the US the whole phenomenon might not even exist. But in Asia it exists profound. Not much in the Netherlands, but I have it in me; could be because far away there is some Asian blood in me. Now for our fun and understanding ... :

I recall a small issue with our beloved "member" Praphan. I don't even know the cause anymore, but it really was a fight of which I can expect the level or anger to be the same as underlaying with you here, Didi. It could be fun if Praphan can explain -after all the facts- what happened. I don't know anymore, probably because there was no logic in it for me. But 100% sure the base (of the problem) was the same as what happened here. What it took was a phone call and within seconds all was right which could not be corrected by writing. And in this case this was NOT about languages (unless now Praphan tells that he always uses Google Translate Happy).
Whether Praphan jumps in or not (remember, this is only for our fun but hopefully better understanding) - this is about super delicacy which can house in "attitudes".

Okay, done.
If this is given to Google Translate only God knows what will happen. So, I realize that. But anyway I made a long post of it because I think it is important. Anyway I tried my very best.
Regards,
Peter (not even checked for typos, so beware)

Hi Didi,

Is it possible for you to forget about our both previous posts, apply a "reset" somewhere - and write down what is the culprit with the HDTracks as how you see it today ?

Please notice that it seems that in XXHighEnd there is some problem related to the actually wrong (header) data in HDTracks files, the way XXHighEnd deals with different subsequent sample rates in files *AND* the way a driver like from the Weiss deals with this.

The latter may be new to you, but I think I can derive from similar problems someone else experiences (also with a Weiss) that it can be a combination of all of it. This will make it very confusing for you. On the other hand, for me it may even be more difficult because I can only rely on the data you give me (I don't own a Weiss to try).

Thanks a lot !

Hi Peter,

My problem is the following:

1) XX Hi-end cannot play all the songs one after the other when I am playing a playlist that has songs with various samples (mainly 88.2 and 192).
E.g. if a song is playing at 192 and the next song is at 88.2 XXHi end cannot play the next song right. (and vice versa)

2) When not played in a playlist, by this I mean playing the songs separately, XXHi end cannot play at the first go.
E.g. if you play a song at 88.2 then stop, change the song, a song at 192, XXHi End does not want to play the file. After pressing play a second time, it will run again. (and vice versa)

I hope I explained it clearly to you. I only wish to help you improve your software. There is no problem for me to use XXH, as I know how to do.

Best regards,
Didi

Hi Didi,

With all due respect, I have been playing XXHE for two years and I am still learning every now and then.  There are some features that I have to admit that I don't know how to apply properly. Folks in this forum are willing to help given the issues are clearly communicated.

May be you may like to share your settings in the sig.

Kind regards,
Praphan

PS. I jumped in simply because I used to come across issue related to hi res materials played back at 16 x arc prediction (fx on). It was all about the header data in which case Peter has solved it in z7.

Hi Praphan,

Here are my setting:
Thinkpad W530 - i7-3920 - 32 G RAM -SSD Intel 240G - ex.HDD LaCie 3T.
DAC: WEISS MEDEA+FW & DAC202, Accuphase DP100/101, Metronome, Sony SACD-1.
TT-analogue: TTweight ONYX + Graham Phantom II + London Reference & Verdier + EMT +JSD15.
Preamp: Venture VP100L + VP100P(phono)
Power amplifier: Venture V100A+ & V200A+
Speakers: Venture ......
Cables: Venture......
other players: JRiver MC17, JPLAY

XXH-7.2 - KS - adaptive - buffer 2048 - 24/192 - antiImage -scheme-3 or -2 - low - Real Time -15ms - 24/192 - AFC - SFS 2.0 - Straight Contiguous - Q-14 Qf-1.

Those are the setting that so far satisfy me.

Now the only problem (in fact "no problem") is that I should not mix the formats on the play list and play-stop twice to change format, alt-s alt-p.

So far I can't find a better software to play my music then XXH, so soon I will try the NOS1 and see if it the best DAC period, as Peter claim.

Cheers,
Didi

Thank you Didi.
Can you put that data in your signature of the forum (see mine for an example)  ? That way we can always see how a problem can be related to settings etc., and can try to help from there. For example, I knew you use a Weiss, but others did not. So, someone with a same problem and gear could say "hey, I have that problem too !".

Btw, I solved the problem ! So, in (upcoming) 0.9z-7-3 this all should work normally.

Regards and thanks,
Peter
