Until yesterday WASAPI services have been correctly turning off at Unattended. However now WASAPI is staying on all the time regardless of the fact that the "Stop WASAPI Services" button is selected.
I have tried rebooting to full o/s then rebooting to minimised o/s a number of times but without success - WASAPI stays up every time. Any ideas what I can try to fix this?

When this happens to me ( rarely ) I try flipping the button in the current normal OS state( and reboot ) as if it was minimized ,once rebooted I flip again the button .This a couple of times then it works . Hope it will be not confusing for you . S |

Thanks Stefan have tried this but makes no difference WASAPI will not switch off via XX - so I have switched off the Microsoft Windows Sound service which I think achieves the same end result.
Question for Peter I assume that XX launches a batch file to switch off WASAPI on reboot so is it possible that the batch file is not launching? or is it more likely that it is launching but the OS is ignoring the batch file request. So where is the problem most likely to be XX or the OS?

It worked fine with Adnaco installed and before. The Adnaco card is still in the PC so nothing changed - I have not done anything unusual that I can think would have caused this. Sure a few reboots but that has never been a problem in the past.
It seems everything else is shutting off OK as far as I can tell (i.e. network services switch off correctly and PC speed is faster when minimised) - ah yes I did try restore and for some strange reason XX would not work at all so I undid restore.
Grrgh computers!!! when 7 comes (is that still planned for this weekend?) maybe I will fresh install the os and start again get it right then create an image which I did not do before. Not enthusiastic to spend the time though as all I want to do is listen to music these days.
By the way Adnaco card will be removed tomorrow and will ship to you during next week - but I do not want to slow down work on 7 ha ha!!

This gets even more curious. The WASAPI services will not switch off no matter how many reboots to minimised. And so I disabled the following - Windows Audio Service and Windows EndpointBuilder and then rebooted. As I would expect WASAPI stopped working and the speaker in the taskbar crossed out with a red cross. A few normal reboots and as expected those services remain disabled.
But then I used XX to reboot to minimised with the "Stop WASAPI Button" selected on (red) when the PC came back up WASAPI was working and the above Windows services were reset to Auto.
Mmmmm well at least something is happening but not what should be.

Hi Paul, a couple of obvious things, but I'll ask anyway:
1. Are you ticking the 'Stop WASAPI Services' while XX is in non-minimized mode and then ticking 'Minimize OS'? I'm sure you are, but just in case...
2. Are you getting some 'Soundcard has changed...' messages each time you reboot after ticking 'Minimize OS' on/off? You should be if WASAPI services really are being switched on/off (assuming your mobo has an on-board DAC).
Forgive me for asking the obvious - I know that you know XX as well as anyone (other than Peter), but sometimes the obvious is the last place people look.

Yes for sure Are you getting some 'Soundcard has changed...' messages each time you reboot after ticking 'Minimize OS' on/off? Usually - I need to check if everytime though. But for sure WASAPI is always on because the Microsoft sounds are on regardless and the little speaker in the taskbar is never crossed. This all worked fine until a couple of days ago with the little speaker red crossed in minimised (no microsoft sounds) and not crossed in full o/s with microsoft sounds. It just stopped working for no apparent reason recently. I just thought it odd that Windows Audio Services (having been manually disabled by me) are being switched onto automatic (from disabled) by the (I assume) XX launched batch (following selection of "Minimise O/S" in XX) file at next reboot - at least that seems to be what is happening because when the Windows Audio services are set to "Disabled" the only way they should change back to "Automatic" is by manual intervention. I am listening now with Audio Services Disabled so WASAPI is not on - I can do normal reboots and WASAPI remains disabled but if I go to full o/s then select "minimise o/s" in xx then on reboot WASAPI is on again. That should not happen P |

Paul, did you check your "excluded" lists in settings ? You seem to know a bit about it by know, and I suspect you could have put something in there, but forgot about it by now.
