I had some self created system problems today resulting in having to reload XX & drivers etc to get XX working again. No problems everything is now working fine. But with one difference. Before the only volume control I had available was the XX volume control also I did not used to get any windows systems sounds when running with the os minimised (I did with os maximised). This was never a problem before. However now I get windows sounds in minimised and I also get the windows slider control available from the toolbar at bottom right side of the screen which controls the output level from XX. So now I have two volume controls. Everything is working fine and the SQ is fine no problems it seems. So my question is I thought that the only volume control should be the one in XX - with the windows volume control working does that not infer that the output is going through some part of the os and so it not under the sole control of XX?

Hi,
Mininised os i suppose? Then it should be disabled. I encountered this situation after a driver update. My cure: reboot a few times (I didfive) and see if the loudspeaker icon on the right is crossed with a red cross.
Then everything is ok again.

I did not used to get any windows systems sounds when running with the os minimised (I did with os maximised Paul, that shouldn't happen already with the OS in normal mode. So, in this case you will have forgotton to shut off WASAPI (in XX Settings), but it still shouldn't happen like you described, either way. Never heard of this anyway, that is, not with the NOS1. Do others with a NOS1 have system sounds with the OS in Normal Mode ?  Peter |

Paul, I just checked and when you use Engine#3/WASAPI with the NOS1 indeed you can control the volume by means of the Windows slider; I never knew that, but thinking about it this is logical. However, notice that it will be the Phasure Driver which controls the volume - not Windows. So, the driver can do that, and normally this is accessable to you - but I shut that off so you can't see it; it would incur for "not lossless" volume. So, same will obviously happen when you use the Windows slider. BUT :
I would never even touch that slider, because I know that the driver module not necessarily will "calibrate" to exactly -0dBFS when the slider is set to maximum.
With Engine#4/Kernel Streaming no sliders appear (which is logical because that is WASAPI impeded) and no further control outside of XXHighEnd is possible.
In neither case any VU-metering is going on, which tells that nothing goes through Windows in any case. And it shouldn't because this is all "Exclusive Mode" which avoids all mixing and all.

Since my system rebuild - whether or not the o/s is minimised I get the windows volume control which allows me to adjust the volume. I only noticed it because when I first fired up XX after my system problems the volume level was very low and I just could not find out what the problem was - it was then I noticed the windows volume control was enabled and set at about 20%. Raising it to 100% brought the output level back to where I would expect it to be. Maybe I will have to reload the driver.

Did you reboot? I read somewhere this has to do with clearing the reboot cache. Sound should be disabled in minimised os. It worked for me. Regards, Coen |

Hi Coen - Yes apologies I should have said - I have rebooted many many times now and still the volume control is there. I will try reloading the drivers when I get a chance and see what happens.

Ok. I presume you load the drivers in normal os mode. So with reverting to minimise os something does not work. I am afraid this is where the restorepoint comes in.. Regards, Coen |

Hummm cough red face and some significant embarrassment. Err with WASAPI disabled on minimise everything working properly.
Interesting though - something was odd before because I never used to get the Windows volume control for NOS (either minimised or maximised os) and volume could therefore only be adjusted via NOS volume control - I did not think to look further.

Well Paul, after having a ride (ahum) in Nick's great car anything could have happened, right ?
But must I understand that you have been playing all the time with WASAPI still active in there ? I guess so.
What leaves is why before you didn't have any volume slider, while now you have. So, it still is so that in my situaton really no slider of any kind is there to change the volume when WASAPI is active, but Kernel Streaming is used. I think this can be driver-install related, but you shouldn't attempt to solve it (in your real practice it would not matter anyway). So, in my case I installed the driver from left to right and upside down a 200 times, and that may have done a few things. But in your case too it worked differently before, right ? So ... let it be ?
