I use XXHighEnd in my everyday machine, win7 64 bits, 8 GB Ram Core 2 Quad, i have XX installed on a 1 GB Ramdisk and i can't use straight contiguous (SC), but as i say this is my everyday machine, so there are lots of things going on in my machine besides XX, so i just use mixed contiguous, but today i install a usb flash disk and configured for readyboost and i try xx with SC and to my surprise it works!!!!!! i can even set SFS to 50.00 !!!!!!! does anybody have test XX with readyboost???????

Well gave this a try, allocated 2 gigs of a 4 gig flash drive to readyboost and am playing SC with a SFS of 28. Its much more stable than what I could get before. Also I'm able to flip back and forth between MC and SC. Will need to do a lot more listening but here are my initial impressions. Using the same SFS there is very little difference between them though SC seems to sound a little more "live sounding". Increasing SFS to 80 with MC and comparing to SFS of 28 with SC produces interesting results. Bonnie raitt's live version of "Love Me Like A Man" sounds better with MC cause its a litte darker and High frequencies seem more muted; however her studio version of "Dimming of the Day" sounds better with SC as she's more "present and live sounding.
Almost forgot: This is the first time I've been able to use special mode with SC; with ramdisc all prior testing was in adaptive; I could never get special mode with SC. Lastly playing off the flash drive versus the ramdisc seemed pretty much identical.

One more advantage of flash drive/readyboost: booting up and off is a whole lot faster without ramdisc.

One MORE thing: My first Readyboost attempt I only allocated 750 mb and couldn't get the SFS larger than 10; when I increased its size to 2 gig I could increase SFS to 28.
Hope this isn't too annoying as I plumb the depths of the best "midfi" sound!

And again: with native 24/96 from 2L (Marianne Thorsen Mozart Violin Concerto) the largest SFS I can use is 10 with SC. I am also manually copying tracks to the readyboost drive just as I did with ramdisc.
Sound is really great but I think (maybe/probably)that higher SFS with both redbook and high res would be better.

Very far it could be a problem on my side, but if you carefully think about the process you imply, maybe you can think of something that eats away the memory first before XXEngine3.exe can use it. For a most simple example : the copying of larger (hires) files already could do that. Not implying a FLAC conversion could help ... etc. I'm working on these things on my side too ... |
