I have an album ripped about a year ago as wave files with Windows Media player (I think). In both 9zb and z1 this album trips the HDCD notice when I hit play, which is then followed by several "engine 3 stopped working errors" and lastly, a "HDCD Decoding Problem. Playback Must Stop" error. Very weird cause this is not an HDCD and no other album causes this to happen.

Must be a coincidental detection of HDCD ...
Ok, I don't know whether this really works, but I think it should ...
In the right pane there will be an XXAnalysis.dat file, with an entry
HDCD : Yes
Edit the file and change that Yes into No and save it.
Hopefully now it doesn't see it as an HDCD encoded album anymore. But if it still does, let me know, and I should change some things.

Hi Roy. The albums play fine here too once I edit the analysis.dat file to say No. What I don't understand is how an album ripped as wave files gets coded as hdcd in the analysis.dat file. In the last year, I have been secure ripping using mostly default settings of dbpower amp. Not sure EAC will make a difference?
Also I did not seem to have this problem with 9zb but don't know for sure cause I may not have played an improperly coded disc in 9zb.

So, it will be the other way around (as Roy suggests) : It *is* an HDCD but the decoding goes wrong. Now watch out : I can't be 100% sure about this without testing it myself, and it could be something else. And so the question : Can you please FileMail me one of the tracks ? |

Thanks for sending the file, and ... nothing wrong with it. Only with me.  Not that I noticed it before, but I think this happens when the input file is a plain .WAV file. So, it *is* an HDCD. If you immediately press play again after the error message (leaving XXHighEnd where it is), it will work. With Attended this is no way of working, but I guess with Unattended, there you you can press play after the error message *and* the whole album has been pre-processed (meaning : HDCD decoded in this case). Thus, when the error message is there, wait until XX vanishes, then bring it up again, click away the error message, and click play again. I didn't test it, but it should work. In the mean time I will solve it for real. Peter PS: So notice : Changing that Yes into a No in the XXAnalysis.dat file is *not* the real solution, because effectively you will molest a good HDCD album into one which plays with (I think) two bits less. Nothing different from what you were used to a month ago of course, but still ...  Notice : If the above solution is too awkwardish and you still want to play the album, better set "Decode HDCD" (Settings Area) to Inactive when you want to play such an album. Then the XXAnalysis.dat file will still be right, but you just don't use it. |
