Hi Peter,
Since the hiFace does not work I tried optical out again.
It tests good in the soundproperties, but when I choose this as output in XXHE I get message - 2004287456.
Is there something I can do to prevent this and play music again?

Peter, It's only with engine #3, I can not use engine #4 with optical from the motherboard. I'll try to make a screencopy when the children finished watching tv ( = monitor of htpc).  It happens right after I hit play. I tried some different settings but no effect. After this error I get a second one with the numbers of bitrate, channels etc. |

Ah, I understand now. So, this will be a rare error (and Google brings me nothing).
Ok, then tell me the numbers from that second message, and tell me what you are trying to play (like 16/44.1, Double etc.).

Same error happens with other sampleratesettings.
