Hi,

I've been using XXHighEnd for some time now. I've tried a bunch of other players but here I get to hear real SQ and thank you for that Peter  Happy Don't know how you do it and what exactly do Q1 parameter, unattended etc, but it sounds great. (by the way, could you give me a link to a topic that clears that up, if there is any?)
Anyway, I switched to Engine4 and the new version of XXHighend and noticed that I can't stop XXEngine3.exe from process explorer level. How can I do this? I'd have stayed with 5-00, but it won't play with my M-Audio Transit over KS.

Many thanks for help

Greets,
Marcin

Hi Marcin, thank you and welcome !

I am not sure wheter it helps for the M-Audio, but 5-03 for sure plays a lot "better".

What you mean by "can't stop from process explorer level" is not clear to me (nor why you want to do that). If this is about not being able to kill it, like from TaskManager ... I am not aware of that !

I don't know of any topic that really explains about Q1, because I just don't like to exlain everything about it. So it probably doesn't exist. Happy
But, it really does something, and it is not a placebo or anything !

I'm not of much help eh ? but maybe 5-03 helps you a little further (long from finished for KS either !).

PS:

Just in case you didn't see it, of course there is this topic : Q Parameter Settings but it doesn't tell you much.
For Q1 (btw Engine#3 only) generally counts : the lower its setting (like towards +0) the more "accurate" the sound will be, up to violins are going to start a little digital. You still may perceive a better sound opposed to a higher setting (but don't play violins), while actually it is too low then.
It is a bit personal, and not for all sound cards the workout is the same. Also, USB generally "likes" higher settings (e.g. above 10).

OK, I mean can't kill process from Task manager Wink (used my own explanation instead of proper name, sorry)

I saw that topic about Q1 parameter. For me, default value (Q1=14) is very smooth and less fatiguing. However, lower values deliver more details. The sound becomes faster and *brighter*.
KS on the other hand gives rather flat sound, but it's only first impression after going from Engine3. Actually it is natural and more detailed than Engine3, but it isn't so smoothed out, which is a good thing, because it reminds live music.

Oh, and I don't have any problems running my Transit at Q1=-4, unless there are some other issues beside latency that I should be worrying about...

I'm glad that I finally registered here. Hope to have some interesting discussions with you guys!

Ha, nice Marcin, thanks.

Ok, you maybe won't believe this :
Yesterday afternoon I was testing something for KS, and I managed to get XXEngine3 into a loop or whatever happened (but cpu showed a constant 50%). And ... I couldn't kill it. I never saw something like it, and at this moment I don't know yet what it actually was doing. Had to reboot the PC to get rid of it. At a next attempt the PC hung. Had to reboot again of course. Then stopped for the day.

I never saw anything like that before, and now you come up with something which seems to be the same. However, you should have been in a normal situation, though something caused to want you to kill it. Didn't it want to stop playing ? So, can you explain *why* you wanted to kill it ? (and I guess you know that at Unattended (UI disappears) bringing up XXHighEnd and click Stop should just do the job).

Interested in your answer,
Peter

Let me put it this way - I don't want to leave unattended for some reasons, maybe I'll explain it later Happy It's just easier for me to kill the process instead going back to UI.

Folks,

Maybe here's another guy experiencing this "not stopping engine3.exe" thing.

From downloading 9y-5.03 (very nice improvement of SQ, fenomenal!!) I repeatedly have to "run engine3.exe" when I tick another song in my playlist to play it, this message appears.

Is that what you were talking about Marcin or am I wrong and if it's not the same, Peter, can you help me out?

By the way, rebooting didn't work...

Hey Han, You must be liking riddles ! I don't understand a thing of what you're saying ! Happy Happy

Quote
"not stopping engine3.exe" thing

You don't mean "stopped working", right ?

Quote
I repeatedly have to "run engine3.exe"

Engine3.exe is never to be run by yourselves. XXHighEnd.exe starts (and stops swoon) it when in order. So ?

Quote
I repeatedly have to "run engine3.exe" when I tick another song in my playlist

It may be symantics, missing commas, needed periods, I don't know, but is says exactly nothing to me ! too much !

Quote
I repeatedly have to "run engine3.exe" when I tick another song in my playlist to play it, this message appears.

Ehhm, what message ?? thankyou

Quote
Peter, can you help me out?

I am sorry Han. You must be stated as completely lost. No treatment possible I'm afraid. pleasantry

Ok, kidding of course. But in the mean time I really don't know what you are talking about. So if you could be somewhat more specific ?
But I guess you must be dealing with something else as Marcin does. Unless you indeed start Engine3.exe yourself, but this is NOT the intention of it all ! (and Marcin does something like that indeed (he told me off line), never mind why for now -> new polish inventions haha).

Best regards,
Peter

Hey Peter,

It's an "Open file, security warning Publisher could not be verified. Are you shure you want to run this software"  etc...

Yes I know, I'm a dummy but still enjoying XX very much. Let's say a dummy with really good ears...

BTW, I have managed to get Engine 4 playing but it consequently stops after let's say 30 sec.

About SQ: Although I have not been able to do A/B testing so far, I experience a serious improval of the lower regions (bass) in comparison to 9y-4. I haven't experienced a loss in detail however, maybe it sounds some less "digital" and that's what we are all craving for aren't we?

Regards!

Hi Han, thank you.

Ok, that is clear now. That message, doesn't it contain a checkbox "don't show the next time" ? if so, tick that.
Furthermore, at the first install of XXHighEnd you may be dumped with these messages, and for each this checkbox should be ticked.

If there's no checkbox, what program is causing it (it will show in the message) ?
Anyway, such a message should never be there ...

Peter

PS: If you have some spare time, please put your "stuff" in your signature, like e.g. I have it. This would show me, for instance, what OS you are using - which may be important to the matter. Thanks !

Believe it or not but when I sent my last message and went back to XX, the whole problem was gone.... Didn't change anything in the settings or whatsoever (and yes I had the checkbox you named, cleared before), the problem just went up in smoke!  Happy

I still have this thing concerning engine 4 however. It stops after playing for 10 or 20 seconds. Do you have a solution for that maybe?

BTW how do I put this signature underneath?

best regards, Han

Hi Han,

Ok, no problem. As long as the problem has gone. When not, you'll put it forward, okay ?

For the "Signature", click your own name and next click "Forum Profile Information". At the page you will receive it's almost at the bottom. You will see it.

The 30 seonds thing ... just wait for the next version (y5-04) and I hope it it solved for you. If not, you'll shout it out, I assume (and hope).

Have a nice evening,
Peter

Yesterday afternoon I was testing something for KS, and I managed to get XXEngine3 into a loop or whatever happened (but cpu showed a constant 50%). And ... I couldn't kill it.
Peter

Hello Peter,
I have been out of town for a while and now I am back and see that you released 9y-5. Congratulations! Unfortunately I could not find the time yet to test it, but reading this post triggered me to report a strange behaviour in 9y-4 that looks a bit like above.
When I go to Library Area, rightclick any album, Play each (random and semirandom functions), Randomly, Go (autoselect),
then XXHE hangs (the processor seems to be in a loop). However, I am able to kill it using the Taskmanager (no reboot needed). Still, this (repeatable) behaviour is very strange. So I thought you might want to know this.
My OS is W7-x64, virtually tweeked to death (Possibly to much tweeking??? - I did not test it under W7 Untweeked).
Note that this never happened when I was running the same under Vista.

Is this unique for my environment or do others experience the same?
Since I don't have 9y-5 up and running yet, I cannot say what happens when I do.

Cheers,
Eric.
