Hello

I hope you can help me to solve the problem that i have when i play music with XXHighEnd stored in my droboshare NAS, because the music just stops playing,
sometimes the same track plays without problems but when i access files in the drobo the music stops, i'm not talking about hard intensive network activity is just explorer activity (access folders).

I'm sure the cause is the NAS access trought the network because when i copy the same track in the local disc runs without problems, btw the same track in the drobo plays fine in foobar but the sound of xx it's way better than foobar to my ears so i need your help to solve these issues.

Hi there,

I'm afraid the DroboShare is just too slow !
I can't comment on what happens when you access the files via the back door, but when the throughput is like 6-10MByte/s (which it is as I understand) you will run out of headroom for loading (parts of) tracks. Remember, XXHighEnd plays from memory, and assumes some 10MByte/s as the most slow data connection (being 100Mbit ethernet). The headroom for this is 14 seconds, which merely is for processing time (like converting from FLAC etc. etc.), while in optimum circumstances a whole album is read from disk in 5 seconds or so. In your case, a 10 minute track takes 10 seconds already !

Please notice this is just theory, because I don't know the DroboShare. But if it is that slow, I should be correct with the above ... Sorry !

You have one option to try :
Set the "Split files at size" (Settings Area) as low as 60MB (without upsampling you can even go lower). It could sufficiently help ...
If it does, higher the parameter up to the point it goes wrong again.
Of course this can hardly anticipate on your "back door access", but you may be able to make the best out of it this way ?

Let me know what happens !

I try 40 MB and it works!!!!!

I'm not resampling my Audio GD 9Mk3 with PDM100 doesn't support it, i'll put DF 1704 another day to try that, but for the moment it's working very well.

Thanks a lot  Wink

I make some more test and finally found that 65 MB is the biggest setting that works, so peter it's best to live the setting as high as possible?

Generally yes, because all (unnecessarey) activities influences sound. Thus, XXHighEnd is supposed to be a memory player (leaving the disks and everything quiet), and you're degrading that by reading smaller parts of the tracks instead of all in one go (in the latter case only degrading the end of tracks because that is when the new track is read into memory).

But hey, better than nothing !
Glad you got somewhere.
