After a power outage, my comperter crashed. I rebooted and opened XXHighEnd player. Loaded library and began to play. I then got a message "DEVICE IN USE", then "2/16/44100/176400/4", then "Device cannot play". then I reinstalled the program and entered the activation code. Same result. Any solution?

Hi Dennis,
Can you check the properties of your device (start at rightclick the loudspeaker icon in the taskbar tray) - Advanced, and whether those two checkboxes for exclusive use are still ticked ?
I never heard of them getting unticked, but otherwise I wouldn't know what has happened ...

When you use USB to the DAC you could try another USB port.
When you use a soundcard to pass through SPDIF to the DAC you could (shut down the PC and) remove the soundcard, reboot the PC and (shut down the PC and) put the soundcard back and reboot.
You can try to reset the DAC. If there's no official means for it plug it out and shortcut the legs of the wall plug.
Keep in mind that something might really be broken. You might examine the (three) Windows logs for that. In there you may also be able to see why the PC crashed in the first place, and get some clues from there.
Lastly, note that the "Device is in use" message is from software, and hardly a report from the hardware. So, if software starts to use it, a flag is set, and while this flag is there a next attempt (from other software) requesting Exclusive Use (!!) will tell that the device is in use.
For this matter you could go to the loudspeaker icon in the taskbar tray again, and show the software there (like "Mixer") with left click on that icon. You might see unknown software, or might notice that XXHighEnd is already running, or ...

I tried running off the other USB ports with no success. But, I have since been able to get the #1 and #2 engines to run, but not #3.

Music on external hard drive with own power supply. Brains of the system is a Raspberry Pi running Moode Audio. The RPI has dedicated Longdog audio linear power supply.
Signal passes first to SW1X Signature USB to SPDIF converter
Then to SW1X Signature DAC
Then to Stevens and Billington TVC
Then to modified vintage triode amplifier
Then to open baffle speakers with vintage alnico drivers. Grundig tweeter, Saba Greencone midrange, Altec 416 VOTT base.
Everything is silver wired including mains and speaker cables

I just added my critical system components. Very basic. The DAC in the Edirol is as good, if not better, than any other I have tried.
