Hey Brian,

I hope we all are aware of this by now,

By accident I'am working on a MFSL discography, not acquiring the MFSL versions but the original versions
MFSL used as master, go figure.

While everybody gets occupied with remasters, 24-96/192, MFSL, XRCD, black edition, gold this, gold that, gold etc,
Just try to get the original releases/masters, first pressings or unremastered versions, these are golden.
You will be less disappointed as the other way around, believe me.
These are ofcourse somewhat older albums, newer albums will remain a problem.

Filtering and not having headroom causes the loss of dynamics IMO.

Thanks Roy, I generally buy all my cd's used on Amazon. Amazon now lists the release dates of the cd; ironically the newer and remasters are all more expensive than the better sounding ones released in the late 80's and early 90's.

Though I knew remasters sound terrible compared to original releases, I never understood why before now.

Hope all is well with you!

This says it all Brian, thats the smartest AND only thing you could do.
Mostly the older versions are not in store anymore.

Currently i have access to almost all music databases on the internet over 3 miljoen lossless albums I guess,
combine that with 100mbps internet speed.
What i want to say; I just don't fill up hdd drives anymore, I only keep the best albums on my hdd.
So only proper stuff and well yea some sentimental stuff as well.

Once in while I buy an album that isn't in the database or has no artwork or has for eg. CRC mismatches.
Most I buy second hand.

PS: Watch out with so called FIRST PRESSINGs, they are sometimes Pre-emphasized !!
Just open your cuesheet into a text editor and look for FLAGS PRE, then you'll know.
Thats why i keep suggesting to everybody to keep your cue's and logs with your secure rips ;0

Hi Roy,

is it possible to share the addresses of the databases with us?
I know Rhino and HD Tracks for older records only.

Thank you.

best

Don't forget this is not about getting free music,
see it more like;"I dont have to do the work to rip this album again, because its already *there* incl. artwork etc"

With this info i know what to buy and what not

Í do it in similar way...just bought a lot of cd's I already "had" for some month. And I will buy more of them. Great Music.

I just want to recomend to you the "original album classics" series. You get 5 CD's unremastered for 10-20€. I bought 5 Packs in a electronis store for 10€ each. Great sound for a realy low price.
