Lost Library

Though I have my Music Root as "E:\Music I\", XX stopped going there when I hit the library button. Instead it goes to the C Drive "Desktop" (See below). I reinstalled 9z-4-1 but it didn't help. Last night, I did change the name of my classical directory in the "E:\MusicI\" directory.

Assuming you are not talking about "Galleries" ...

Can't you go to the "..." button at the bottom (right from that field which now shows your Music Root) and select the proper directory from there ?

Otherwise maybe I don't understand.

Hi Boleary,

That's happened to me (lost library) several times. XX just suddenly doesn't find it or shows the whole drive as if it were Explorer, although nothing has changed. I've just fooled around a bit with the file stuff (I think I cleared the basic root file, rebooted and then entered it again and stuff like that) and eventually it would find it again.

Basically a minor annoyance but I never thought much about it. I've seen other programs do similar things so I'm sort of used to it happening.

Well I think I found the culprit, sort of. I had renamed my classical directory to Zclassical cause XX would often need to shut down after i played something in that directory and then tried to play something outside of that directory. The classical folder is on the Artist level of the main Music I directory ( E:\Music I\ Artist). When I renamed the directory back to just Classical the library button works again. Seems odd that renaming a directory will cause the library button to quit working like this.

No, for now I refuse to think this is some culprit or anything. Of course you (both) can be right, but then it should have happened to me at least once. And it never did.

But if you start renaming folders, why would things go allright, knowing that XX remembers where you were last - tries to get back there, while it is not there it all anymore. So, nothing else to do than show the root (up till the "computer" if it would be about c: completely missing). So :

1. You set the Music Root (very first time using XX);
2. When the field at the bottom is empty, the Music Root is showed there (and activated in the embedded explorer following of what's in there);
3. You change that field at the bottom, which could be implied by anything. E.g. choose another folder in the Embedded Explorer.
4. Quit XX and restart it, and a reselection in the Embedded Explorer takes place, guided from whatever is in that bottom field (which is the thing which is remembered !).
5. You rename that physical folder which is implied by the bottom field; XX won't know this, not even when you'd rename it by means of the Embedded Explorer.
6. The bottom field still contains the old data, but the folder isn't there anymore. No some root will show.
7. You change the Music Root to the new folder name; nothing will happen to anything, because #2 does not apply.
8. To solve it, type the new Music Root at the bottom, or select it by means of that "..." button (and click Search; not sure about whether this is needed).

Sorry it needs this description, but that is what will have happened, while at least #8 has not been applied.
Also, some "reset" button to re-show the officially entered Music Root is lacking since the last (or two ?) version, while before this could go automatically but then some other annoying (often waiting) for it happened.

Peter, I'm not sure what you mean by your explanation (a language issue I think).

As to renaming folders, I've done it several times and watched XX closely to see if it would cause problems, because I thought it might. Surprisingly it didn't. It immediately showed the new folder, or eliminated the folder I had deleted.

Boleary you said you often have had to reboot your computer after playing certain tracks from certain folders. I wonder if you checked your cover art. I've had XX lock up unexpectedly, no message just a complete lock up, to eventually discover the culprit was a corrupt cover art file (in my case a zero size file). It can be just one file in a whole directory of folders. It just happened again recently. It took about ten reboots before I remembered the cover art thing.

Whether I can copy what you are heaving (lock up) is another thing.

Okay, this works now when I change the name of a subdirectory in the main root folder. Thanks!
