I always play albums. After 3 or 4 tracks of the album the small tick starts. At the start of a new track, around 1 or 2 sec in the track a small tick happens. The first 2 or 3 tracks of the album are okay. The tick is as if it skips some data, not much.
I also tried W8.1, although the sq was not good, this tick was gone.
I have tried al kind of settings but notting seems to change this behavior. Any suggestions?

Kind regards, Arjan

Hey Arjan,

That tick has been there forever ... IF it is right at the start of the track - so, not much after 1 or 2 seconds; I don't know about that.

Although I never observed W8.1 for this it seems logical that 8.1 wouldn't exhibit it because it shows so much less highs.

That this isn't happening in the first 2 or 3 tracks is for sure unknown to me. So now I wonder whether you talk about something completely different/new;
Did you know about the tick happening in between actually all tracks as long as it is about not-live (I mean with meant silence in between them) ?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,
I just heard a live album, and you are right (as always) no tick.
I am sure that I hear on other cd's this tick not at the start but short after the start of the track.

What I will do is, next time I listen to music (more albums) I will make notes. And will come back on this.

I was hoping that with all the changes we are doing (Q and SFS) this tick should vanish.

Thanks, Arjan

Arjan,

If this really is not right at the start of the track it can be your Wallpaper Coverart. Not that this works in your version for W8 but it can be switched on in XXHE Settings and still does something (it is quite hammering anyway).
And oh, this is not consistent with no ticks in live albums so it is probably not the Wallpaper anyway.

Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
Just a small update. With the currently low q1 and SFS settings the tick is at the start of the track now. Not a big issue anymore.

You know what Arjan ? I already didn't hear it anymore when you started this topic. So I wondered. However, I forgot abut it again. How ? because It just seems to have gone.
And the hours I spent at solving it (2-3 years ago) are countless. So to me this now seems to be related to "timing" (well, that other topic, you know).

Yes, you know what ? With your post in mind I wondered myself and asked over here "do we actually still ever hear those ticks ?" ... and the answer was "don't think so". I myself thought the same but mind you, no single second has been spend on the issue now.

I could say : No wonder that I never could find the issue (I really must have spend well over a 100 hours to find it) because I now think it is related to some sheer Operating System bug. Should be in the same area as the "Handle Leaks" I talked about in the releas Notes, which appeared to be an OS bug since 2009 and up till today never solved by MS. So, I worked around *that* and now the ticks seem to have vanished.

Not being 100% sure (because actually they appeared fairly randomly) at least I did not obtain the text "This version exhibits vinyl like ticks in between tracks" anymore.
So I guess that can stay out from now on ? I hope so.

Great thanks for your feedback Arjan; maybe I was actually waiting for that. Happy
Peter
