Hi, i'm new here. i just want to ask about Q1 slider. I'm using XXHighEnd 0.9lb on vista with engine #3, and i wanna know what is the best setting for the Q1 slider. thanks.

Welcome WeHa. I'll have a go at answering that, but Peter mey want to chip in.

Unlike a volume control the Q1 slider is not a straightforward 'linear' device going from one extreme to another. At each position it has a different impact on jitter.
Because we are running different systems, in particular sound cards and DACs, it is impossible to predict the best position for your system. Many of us have ended up between 0 and -4.
At the very low end some people experience a reaction in their systems (cracklings) but nothing that will harm your speakers. As you get used to the software you will find your own best position. You will find a fair bit of discussions on other postings. Good luck

Music on external hard drive with own power supply. Brains of the system is a Raspberry Pi running Moode Audio. The RPI has dedicated Longdog audio linear power supply.
Signal passes first to SW1X Signature USB to SPDIF  converter
Then to SW1X Signature DAC
Then to Stevens and Billington TVC
Then to modified vintage triode amplifier
Then to open baffle speakers with vintage alnico drivers. Grundig tweeter, Saba Greencone midrange, Altec 416 VOTT base.
Everything is silver wired including mains and speaker cables

thank you for the reply. right now i'm using Terratec Aureon Space 7.1 combined with Logitech Z-560 THX Certified. and for next few days i will put my Aurum Cantus V3M for testing the best setting.

so from what you posted, could i make a conclusion that for common listening, Q1 slider is best at 0 until -4 point?

I have settled at -3. I would try there first to get a grasp of how its performing. If its not to your liking then bounce about a bit. You cant do any harm to the software or your system (30, at the other end, also has some admirers). Dont tick 'doubled' 'upsampled' or 'reversed' till you have got used to what is going on.

Although I'm enamored with setting -3, I get small "crack" sounds, (almost like playing a record),  I still like my settings of 13 and 14 which to my ears are best for my system.... a very nice presentation, better bass and not as stressed sounding as -3.  -3 is alluring in that it sounds clear as a bell, but music is not placed as "good" for me in the soundstage and bass not as hard hitting as 13/14.  It's a very hard decision, and a lot of times comes down to what album I'm listening to and my mood.  I'm glad I have the choice and look forward to exploring other Q1 settings.  btw -2 doesn't sound as good and I think when I move from there up the phase is starting to weird out... although I may need to explore with reverse, I'm not sure a 180 will really change what I'm hearing.
edit:
I really bet these are all very system dependent settings with this Q1... each music system plays with phase different from another system.

I was just listening to Al Stewart's Rooms in Rhyme (an awesome disc ... wav heh) and it was sounding great at Q1 13.  I switched to Q1 -3... hmm liked the 13 better... decided to invert phase... omg, it completed synced up.  outstanding and better than I've heard before.  no "cracks" on this one... so who knows, recording dependent.  If you're a tweaker, this is the player for you, if you're not, it still is heads and tails above every other player I've tried... is there a player I haven't tried for window hehe, I don't think so.

IMO we must try to hear what's good in one setting, in order to hear what's wrong with the other (or the other way around).
E.g. if you hear cracking like from vinyl, *or* it's always there but often you don't hear it (and the setting would be WRONG), *or* you hear the cracking of vinyl in that setting, hence it's really there and the setting unveils it (that would be GOOD) ...

So if the latter is theoretically supposed to be good, what can be wrong with the other setting you actually like better (but dont hear the details) ?

It's just an example ! (which does not apply to your situation Dave, it only looks like it).
