Hello There,
now that I'm getting used to the interface and am able to move around, I have another issue i.e. questions to XXHE.

I read everywhere - not just here - about the huge amount of ressources needed for a music server. Memory, CPU-Power, Windows OS ... I built a server with an Intel D525 CPU (dual core atom), 2 GB of memory and running Windows 7 Starter. When running XXHE I see the taskmanager indicating: 1% CPU and 20% Memory being used. I don't know why others claim to need Win7 Professional or greater when most of the services and GUI candy are being disabled.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks and best regards,
jerryt

Hi again Jerry,

Answering that correctly will take more time than I can spend. But in a most brief form :

- The lower the cpu usage the better. FYI : I output 32/705600 right now (Deep Purple, might this matter Happy), and the CPU usage is still a virtual zero.

- Search for "SFS" in here to get objective expressions on to what this does. But in general : XXHighEnd is a pure memory player, which gets less "pure" the lower this Split File Size gets. Most have set it to the largest amount (which is ~450) and which will consume 4GB for the sound engine alone (which is XXEngine3.exe).

- The less resources are used, the better it will be. Ah, you knew that.

All Windows versions utilitize the memory differently, and you can well say that the lower the version (like Starter would be on the low side), the less memory can be utilized. But, that depends on the tweaks applied (by you or by XXHighEnd). But with 2GB there isn't much to tweak anyway ...
You could also try to grasp what 0.9z-6 does and the Minimize OS function, and how people suddenly can utilize much more memory for playback. Notice though that this needs the activated version (which I don't want to talk you into at all).

Anyway, you can also say that with 2GB only these things should relatively help a lot. Remember, relatively.

I'm not sure whether this helps, but I hope at least a little ...
