1  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Advice needed on: July 07, 2011, 09:48:16 am
Hi Peter,

The adaptive mode has given me a couple of evenings without one gap! good

But...reading a lot more last days and your message about the slow disk I/0 made me think about my setup.
I have OS, XXHighend and the albums on one "slow" (5400 rpm) spinning disk which is splitted in a C: and D: partition.
I now understand this isn't the right way to get gappless play, one disk has to do all the work.

So next step is a new (faster) disk for OS/XXHighend.

But what to buy?  a fast spinning disk or a SSD?

With the information I found last day's I prefer a SSD.
Found out there's a new vertex3 disk which has a max data transfer of about 500 Mb/s read and write.
My today's system can't use this all but it's a future proof buy.

today I had several gaps in one album at the beginning of the long tracks and one occured at a track of normal tength (6 min)
With every gap almost the same view on the taskmanager.

Thanks so far Peter!

Only one graph shown....you mean there are two cores?
So the "!"  had to be "?"  It's not easy for a dummie  scratching

While playing music I had the taskmanager open and when a gap occured I had a look what happens on the graph!

Is it possible to log what happens with the CPU (cores)?

oh, 16/44.1 is the in and output sample rate
5  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Advice needed on: July 01, 2011, 06:46:42 pm
After playing several albums gappless a gap occurs in the middle of a track of 12 min and the CPU graph of the taskmanager shows a peak of just 50%.
SFS: 12, unattended play
So that makes clear it isn't the CPU!

Hi Peter,

I have tried SFS from 12 to 200
And do you mean if I used Mixed Contiguous Mode when using 09-z5?  It's not in 09-z3, isn' t it?
In 09-z5 I did indeed

My setting at this moment are:
device: KS:HIFACE Kernel Streaming >>#wave
Engine: #4 engine
KS Mode: Special
Processor Core Appointment Scheme : 3
SFS: 50

and, yes I have SATAII connections to the harddisks!  But is that important with unattended play?
7  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Advice needed on: June 30, 2011, 01:53:08 pm
Hello all!

I'm using XXhighend for a while now and think I can handle a lot to make it work ok.
But...the latest versions I did' t get to work proper so I'm using 09-z3 again.
But once in a while I have a little gap. Found out that my CPU was just orking on 2200Mhz although it has to be able to work on 2800Mhz.
So I changed bios settings and it seem more stable now. But stil I have gaps sometimes, even in unattended mode.

Made me think of getting a faster CPU.
My system at this moment is a Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H with a Athlon II X2 240e, 3 Gb RAM and still Windows XP. The machine is used only for XXhighend.
My idea is to change the CPU, add some more RAM and install W7.

The CPU is was thinking of is the AMD Phenom II X4 955 or even the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
Is it a smart move to put these CPU's on the " old " MB?
Please give me advices what to do to get rid of the gaps!

8  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / remote problems, help wanted on: December 19, 2010, 04:57:17 pm
Hi all,

Last week I tried to get Autohotkey working properly. On the keyboard it all works ok now but no luck both remotes I have.
One is a Logitech Harmony 885 and I have found MCE on the Logitech site but it doesn't work.
I can't find out how to program the ALT-x combinations in the 885. (is this possible?)

I also have a Microsoft MCE set with IR receiver and remote but this doesn't work either.

The remote Peter mentioned seem not to be available anymore.

Who can give me advice on this?
9  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Truth about HiFace buffer on: August 13, 2010, 09:00:22 pm
1. I have a 2500 Mhz core 2 with lavel2 cache of 1 MB per core
2. no hires material, just flac's 16/44.1
3. XXHighend and Windows XP are the only programs running on this PC
Never have the "too many buffer errors" message anymore but on some albums I have some short gap's, most albums play perfect.

PS: When I can find the time I shure will mention my setup!!
10  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Truth about HiFace buffer on: August 12, 2010, 11:18:57 am
Why do I still have problems with Adaptive mode with 2048 for buffer and Q1=1 (attended)?
Had to set it to 4096.
In unattended mode it's ok
11  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / HD choice for XXHighend on: August 11, 2010, 11:20:22 am
Hi Peter, Hi all,

After reading the last post about the HD choice I have another question.

When building my audioPC I choose for a 5400 RMP instead of a 7200 RPM HD.
Reasons: less power consumption, less heat, less sound, longer life but I also realized that it has less speed.

Now I am asking myself (and you all) was it a good choice.

Is it better to go for a 7200RPM HD in relation with the use of XXHighend
And does the HD buffer size has any effect on this all?
12  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: SQ of 0.9z on: June 01, 2010, 02:21:20 pm
After some listening and fine tuning of 0.9z I also have to give a reaction.

sound is AMAZING!!

I use Adaptive mode in this version.
In the previous version I used Special Mode but that mode now gives a too hard, sharp high/midrange on my system.
One thing I don't understand is the higher buffer setting, with 2048 I have "too much buffer errors"  resulting in not recognizing my Hiface anymore!
Only a restart of the PC could solve it.  After setting the buffer size to 4096 I have had no problems anymore.

Thanks Peter, for all the support and the great times we have with perfect sounding music
13  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / best connection PC to DAC on: May 09, 2010, 12:47:23 pm
In my situation there's no possibility to place my audiopc near the DAC so the distance is about 8 mtr (24 ft).
Now I am using a (too ?) long Canare coax cable.
Thinking about other, hopefully better,  solutions I found a RCA connector.
Then I can plugin the Hiface directly to the DAC so I don't need any coax.

But then I have to find the best possible USB to USB connection for 8 mtr.
One possibility is 2 USB active (?)  repeater cables from 5 Mtr.
Another way could be USB/UTP -> 8 mtr UTP6 -> UTP/USB.

please help me with suggestions, other ideas or whatever!!

(I know BNC connection would be better but I already have the RCA Hiface and my DAC doesn't have BNC)
14  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXHIGHEND-M2TECH-WIN XP on: May 01, 2010, 12:16:42 pm
An hour ago the PCI to USB (with NEC chip) card arrived. Putted it in and.........all is working again!  clapping
I also received a mail from M2Tech last week, they are working on a new driver which should solve the AMD SB700/710 problem.

I have listened to the TRENDS last week and again the better sound of the Hiface is very notable.

Thanks all for helping me!!
15  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / moving XXHighEnd on: April 27, 2010, 08:39:12 pm
Hi Peter!

I have two partitions on my new PC. On the small C partition I have Windows and XXHighEnd and on the D partition my music albums.
The idea is that if I have to re-install Windows I only have to install Windows and XXHighend and not all the albums.

When the re-install is needed can I move XXHighEnd from C to the D partition, format the C partition and re-install Windows and move XXHighEnd back from D to C?

I know it is possible to move  Grin   but will XXHighEnd work again?
