And people, be aware that the XX player is ruling far above all others. Both re. sound and functionalities. Peter here just underlining a few of the fantastic qualities it has, almost impossible to comprehend for common man. But buy, and await a great surprice.... Cheers Gerner

Hi Peter old pal... Very good and honest reply to Rainer who's a close friend of mine. I recomended him the XX being the best SW palyer available, if he could live with some up-grades from time to time. But still I mean your player is awsomely good. The C-player has become more popular around over time, but nehhhh....not IMO. Dear Rainer and Peter...I hope you will join the pleasures of the XX player as it offers so many goodies as never seen/heard before. Cheers Gerner

Hmm.... let's see if this post can survive here..... First of all I'm not sure what you talk about except for SQ and whatever. Finding pick-up 1 being better than pick up 2 in the good old vinyl days and alikes. Those old mechanical devices also showed differences in both highs and lows letting your speaker move some cm's. But not at that level! But in the domain you talk about here, 26 db, it can only be related to room phenomenons, taste, lack of a loudness button or a completely freaked out players??? The latter I cannot confirm here in my environment. It is world wide accepted that speakers throughout decades, or soon a centery now, showes more or less liniarity, more or less within the same +- band tollerances accepted by most ears. These tollerances are discussed in many many reviews and tests and among forum members. But they are not being about neither 26 db or anything like it. Talking about cranking up some frequency bands at these db levels to make a SW player sound at it's best, then something must be expressed wrongly or my mind lost the track? Will someone of you please crank up 25-30 db audible frequencies at sub-freq. level if your speakers can respond liniarely there and tell me if you think this is sounding like music in your place? I am most curious what this is all about. Gerner

So maybe after all: Don't ask Bill Gates to shut up as he will have the last word in any case. That's seen before....
I didn't went into any discussion with his OS system on my PC and neither I got any penalty from him on my XX, which he in my case alowes to excist in his world. I have not seen anomalities for a very long time now.

Even I did not have the addressed problems for quite a while, I remember though when the RME FF was in the game here, that no cores here showed more than a max 2% activity when all kind of s*** were going on, me backing up and so on while the music were playing. Even when the sound went into a cracle mode in the past, the cores didn't show more than 2% activity.
So Peter you are right, there must be something else eating those processors capacity and it can only be a question to find what it is.

Gerner, Maybe it comes confusing to you as an "insider", but this is what I said : Unless you have other reasons than Audio ... don't go for the Quad cores ... which means I just "approved" it for XX audio. The hint is though, to be careful with other software. Ahh..ok Peter. I might have lost the overview here at the forum, because what I suggest now, might already excist? What about a list placed under "Download and releases" naming what kind of alien SW should be avoided for Q processors. I don't know what you have in your own sleave, but along the way as things developes, such a list could be, well, long enough? Gerner

I have a Q processor running here which does not have the slightest problem with the XX. I admit I had some doubt once I had funny clicks and distortion phenomenons occouring, but that came from the FireWire chain having a HW error.
Hi Gerner, I did my homework and I'm pretty sure that the issues are only in XP, which does NOT support more than two processors and that cause the jimp from one core to the other that Peater described. I cannot remember having problems with XP with my dual xeon system, because I used XP for no more than one week and then switched to 2003 server If you guys see the prices at which the new 45nm quad cores will be sold in january wouldn't think to buy a dual core for a multimedia pc anymore Hi Telstar Well running Vista here, I can't tell for XP and this OS system perculiarities. I can only say that my Q4 MOBO does'nt have any problems. It might not apply to others who might use those MOBO's? But Peter is supicious about them due to some activities to spread the jobs on the 4 cores that might influence the playback? Gerner

VST users report glitches and everything with Q processors, although they blame it on the software they use. In those cases, *not* spreading tasks over processors, solve their problems. Besides that, various benchmarks (although from the same environment) show that total power is not more that 2 core processors. So in theory -obviously- Q processors are good, but in practice it often doesn't work out. In this case I'm copying orthers' opinions. But Google shows just too many of them ... Funny.... I have a Q processor running here which does not have the slightest problem with the XX. I admit I had some doubt once I had funny clicks and distortion phenomenons occouring, but that came from the FireWire chain having a HW error. I found out in my corner of the world that the PC shop-shelves is not saturated with dual core MOBOs when you ask for 8 SATA ports for HDD stacking. My advice is not to be too fast on the trigger if anomalities occour. They can come from anywhere. So before eventual owners throw out the Q processor MOBO's. hold the breath and see if there could be other reasons for those anomalities. Gerner

Hello Gerner,
if Johan doesn't want it, I will buy it !
Leo
Dear Johan ...Dear Leo Sorry I was unable to repond to you both. I have been away for a while. Yes I have a FF for sale that price. PM me each of you and who comes first.....Well in this topic in a way you did Leo! I have a Hagerman too, though this is not for sale as it's on a borow from a friend. It's a very cheap solution for those who has'nt any. And good for those who has a "bad" one inside their DAC. Now to the questions which USB/SPDIF is BEST of all. I honestly don't know. I guess it depends on if an eventual used DAC has one on board and that's taken into account too. What can I tell you, those I heard has some very little difference. I was recomended the FF and it's good. And does however offer customized settings for whatever make your music come out. Yes! But the Hagerman is no worse, but different sounding. So is my "on board" USB/SPDIF in my DAC. In a blind test I'm not sure who to point a winner. I could live with them all, with a small + to the FF. Be aware though that it is always good to download the latest .dll drivers for the FF. It's so to speak a dynamical one of a kind in this respect. Gerner
