1  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Usage of XXhighEnd 0.9y-500 with Trends UD-10 as a Transport on XP SP3 on: January 20, 2010, 06:14:55 pm
Hi Peter,

I posted to you a personal mail. But for the web site, I used the XXHighEnd 0.9y-502 as follow :

Music files are wav, flac and mp3 (all in 16 bit, 44.1 kHz)

Trends UD-10 used as Transport Converter from USB to SPDIF/AES/EBU. Careful Trends are used with external loadable Ni-Cd batteries (4*1.2V) and not with USB power.
1) Micromega Duetto DAC (2 x TDA1541) tweaked to be used in NOS mode, connected to the Trends with a RCA Cardas wire in SPDIF mode
2) Micromega Duo Pro (Bit Stream) connected to the Trends with a XLR Cardas in AES/EBU mode
AQVOX Universal USB DAC Driver Full Use (bought for 99 € !) huge better than the native XP USB Driver (USB DAC) which do not work
DAC Settings : 16 Bit, 48kHz
Processor Settings : No Appointment, BelowNormal, High
Memory And Disk Utilization : Split file at Size set to 50 vs 100
DACs are plugged to amp using Cardas wires

About feeling using this equipment :

Natural and very warm sound. For me it is the first time, from my numerical sources experiment, that I heard a sound equivalent to LP vinyle.

Hope it will be useful.

So I am very   Happy

Best regards,
Christophe

Hi Experts,

Installing 0.9y-502 release, XXhighEnd works perfectly now for every formats and seems to be stable.

Congratulations, sound is incredible !

Like my vinyles !  To compare it, I chose Pink Floyd The Wall ripped with Exact Audio Copy in 16 bit, 44 KHz from the original CDs and the original vinyle LPs read with the double MM Audio-Technica AT-440 MLa cartridge mounted on a tweaked Thorens TD-160 with SME arm, the bandwith is larger than XXHighend in the upper part of the spectrum; but XXHighEnd is really really really good.

Very good work !

Best regards,
Christophe.
3  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Usage of XXhighEnd 0.9y-500 with Trends UD-10 as a Transport on XP SP3 on: January 18, 2010, 05:38:43 pm
Hi Experts,

My Config :

Dell Latitude D630 with XP Professional + SP3
4 GB of RAM
Trends UD-10 used as a transport from USB to SPDIF/AES
AQVOX 1.02 ASIO USB Driver (doesn't work with the standard USB DAC XP driver)
Micromega tweaked Duetto DAC (plugged with SPDIF) or/and Micromega Duo Pro (Plugged with AES/EBU)
XXhighEnd 0.9y-500 with DAC settings set to DAC 16 bit, 48 kHz; Processor settings set to No Appointment, BelowNormal, High

I use wav or flac files (standard 16 bit, 44.1 kHz) extracted from the original CDs with Exact Audio Copy and some mp3 files (from 128 to 320).

Return about usage of  0.9y-500 :

On wav files : doesn't work with error message : "Failed write to pin"
On flac and mp3 files :  partially work, but not enable to naturally skip to next track.

When it works, transparency and coherency are better than the last stable XP version of XXhighEnd (0.9x-4;engine 2)  with a huge gap.

Any idea will be welcome.

Hope patch could be possible.

Best regards,
Christophe

4  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / About xxhighend Licence Key Transfer on: January 13, 2010, 02:01:18 pm
Hi Peter,

Actually the xxhighend licence key utilization seems to be motherboard oriented. So, it is difficult to transfer the licence when you upgrade your PC.
For your information, I bought DxO software to process photo correction for more than 2 years. During this period, I changed twice my PC and has been able to transfer the DxO licence key from my old PC and redeployed it to the new PC, via the DxO web site (like a pivot). It is really easy to upgrade the HW with this architecture and continue to legally use the software.
The pain for it, is that you need to be connected on the web from the new PC.

Could it be possible to have it for xxhighend ?

Best regards,
Christophe
5  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: About using xxhighend 0.9y-5 DAC settings on XP SP3 on: January 13, 2010, 01:50:14 pm
Peter,

Well, in this case, do you think that it would work after upgrading XP to windows 7 ?

Best regards,
Christophe

Peter,

Could you please be more clear. You say that for this Dell laptop SigmaTel Audio sound card, 0.9y-5 is not able to play a standard wav file from CD ? What about the Trends UB-10 USB Transport ?

Best regards,
Christophe
7  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / About using xxhighend 0.9y-5 DAC settings on XP SP3 on: January 13, 2010, 10:26:43 am
Hi,

I just installed xxhighend 0.9y-5 on my Dell Latitude D630 on XP Professional version 2002 with SP3.
I had problems to select the right DAC settings for the embedded Sigmatel Audio Sound Card. Regarding ASIO4ALL, I noticed that it is a 2x48kHz, 24 bit card; so I put it in the DAC settings. When I tried to play a standard wav file (16 bit, 44kHz ripped from an original CD with EAC), I had the following message : Device allocated, but can't play; check DAC settings, applied sample Rate.

Any idea will be welcome.

Best regards,
Christophe

Hi Peter,

Great ! It works better with this new exe except when I click on analysis, I have the following error :

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Maybe useful for you ?

9  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Video refresh problem and memory error on: August 19, 2009, 11:33:25 am
Hi,

My config : Dell Latitude D630, 4Gb of RAM, Windows XP SP3

This mail is about xxhighend last release stability.

I used the 0.9x-4 release and it is quite stable on XP except on the memory usage for long pieces of music (classic pieces of more than 15 minutes).

I recently tried to upgrade to the last version and noticed problem on video refreshment. Parts of the GUI appear after put the mouse on the area. It is impossible to use. I decided to restore to 0.9x-4 release. see the screen pictures. The last picture shows an error message with no enough memory !

Any idea about this beheavior ?

Best regards,
CB
