1  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 09-y7 no sound with engine#3? on: March 02, 2010, 10:08:58 pm
I have been running 09-y5 > engine#3 on my vista pc with no problem, still do!
but 09-y7 plays my tracks but there is no sound at all and I get message 'track not found'
What gives?

Or is it that engine#3 is absolete? and I am suppose to use engine#4.  (I can only play engine#3 from my PC)..

thx...
2  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Help me find a new DAC on: October 14, 2009, 06:09:25 pm
Hi GerardA..

Of course I will try to buy Pete's dac when its out, but for now, I ordered this one to get my hands wet... this is the very first dac I buy..
I never was interested in too much audio gear or should I say snake oil coming from the audiophile world... but after I attended the RMAF, it all changed, I saw the light!... Happy I even now believe in power cords..... Happy...

Thanks bud!

Just for the record since Roy meantioned me:

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/137976-experience-diy-dac.html

This DAC costs 100 euro's on e-bay and sounds more then 10 times the money..
But you have to put it in a box yourself and it realy starts to sing when you use outputtransformers (20 euro extra).
And for that you need to know what a soldering iron is.

I think it can only really be beaten by Peter's DAC!

GerardA... so do you have this DAC and how you like it?  it looks interesting and I am interested in getting one.
however, being that most good dacs are thousands of dollars in price and way out of my range.. maybe this one could work...
4  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: What does Invert do? on: June 05, 2009, 05:15:39 pm
I think you should rename this option to Phase Invert, instead of just Invert, due to not being too clear to some and mainly new people as to what it does..
5  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / On X1 how do I enable Q1, it has no effect at all on: February 06, 2009, 09:51:51 pm
but Q2345 do seem to be working as when I move them up and down the music stops momentarily, though, I can't perceive any changes in SQ..

for the record, on w9b al Qs work as intended, I think..

but I have to agree that the SQ on x1b just Kicks Ass!  sounds marvelous... Uhmmm, maybe the Qs should remain as they are..

cheers...

w8 runs and sounds great on my Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64, its definitely your setup not w8.

Well, I trew the SSD out

Peter, Since you threw out your SSD, I will be glad to take it off your hands?   Happy

too bad it's not working for you, but that's the price we pay when we buy very new technology....
we become beta testers or should I say guinea pigs...

cheers..
8  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9w-4 ... hmm ... on: December 12, 2008, 06:34:42 pm
I also just spent some time listening to w-4, and here is my .002 cents worth.(but my favorites are V7 and V6a)
this is how I hear it:

W-4: the mid-range is wider and the voices of singers have moved forward in the stage compared to w-3.

V7: I like it very much, everything sound right, but I think the bass is not as strong as on v6a... to me, not as involving as v6a

v6a: I just love the bass on this version and the fact that its so musical/involving (whatever that means!)
,the hi frequencies are not as high as on v7 (I am talking a very small difference here) but in Unattended mode, they seem to come out more.

But overall, XXHE is great and it beats other players I have heard.

Another thing that I noticed for the first time is that, there is distortion in music when listening to music from files residing on my hard drive. I mean the difference was big in my case and I could not beleive it, so Smooth...

what I did was setup a 2 gigs Ramdisk and moved xxhe with the wav files to it, then proceeded to listen, wow, the first thing I noticed was, there is less distortion in the presentation, its like a blanket or a cover of distortion was lifted from the music, the bass became more defined, cleaner and stronger... everything sound cleaner.. I am really enjoying it to the point that I will get a SSD as soon as I can.. Pretty interesting... although this is old news for you here, its news to me...! smile smile smile

cheers..

Hi Fidelio,  Wow, this sounds interesting! I would like to check it out.. do you have site where I can find more info... Hopefully they will make it to the USA, if not already here... thanks for posting this...

Now I am very curious what core appointment you are using?

I am not using core appointment, as that capability is disabled with the free version, I think.. and I don't understand it very well, when I listen to XX I usually don't do much with my PC.. I just tap my feet with the tunes.. Happy...

The phenom came with a fan and I use it, thou, thus far, it has not bothered yet. but agree, not having fans at all is a plus for what we do...

Which powersupply is recommendable, soundqualitywise..?

I am not sure about this, being that there are sooo many power supplies to choose from at the store, even within the same wattage ratings, for a certain price range, I usually pick the heaviest I can find within a certain price range, that tells me the heat sinks are beefier and are able to handle current loads better, ussually.. but it does not tell me if the filtering circuits are any better, a chance I have to take. I use a 430w, which seems enough for what I do.

It is a ma78gpm-ds2h and replaces a ma78gm-s2h

GerardA,

Oh my god!  I have the same exact board ma78gpm-ds2h and my son has the other one ma78gm-s2h  Wink
they both run good, and we have no issues with them, we are also overclocking them! and they are stable.
my son uses his to watch bluray movies...

On my PC I have switched back to version 9v-6a... as the gentleman on the other thread had mention it to be better,
which I do indeed I can feel the difference in soundstage and dynamics.

we are happy with these boards thus far and we are using the phenom processors.

BTW the replacement MB has better mosfets, chokes and capacitors. Any Idea this will make it sound better?

Hi Gerard, do you mind telling us what brand/model motherboard you have, it sounds to me that you have a motherboard
problem, for what you describe, because when you say that your Bios get reset by XXHE, that is really rough..

I replaced my motherboard an Asus P5k with a newer Gigabyte with a better codec, capacitors, it seems to have a better filtering section for the voltage rail too... and it definitely has better sound especially in the lower notes, I am loving this  board, I tell you that..

14  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 9w-2 does not work help! on: November 12, 2008, 04:58:37 pm
Great, it makes sense and I am glad you do it this way in order to cut the conversion processing time.
I had been listening to 0.9v-7 for sometime and got used to the way it sounds, which I liked, but then when you released a new version, I decided to try it, because over all, you have been improving your product as time goes by.. when I heard .9w-1a I heard something new immediately, (thought its my own subjective opinion, or maybe I am going crazy! Happy...) but I think this new version sounds cleaner or with a little less distortion in my moderate system... Diana Krall is even better now.

and being due to the above opinion, it makes me wonder what do you do in your program to improve sound quality, if you don't mind me asking you?  do you use some sort of crossover to adjust the whole audio frequency range, octave by octave or do you do something entirely different.. its just that for those of us who like your application, it's just curiosity to know what's going on inside your processing engine. thanks.

 wacko wacko
15  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 9w-2 does not work help! on: November 12, 2008, 03:11:40 am
FYI- I just played a couple of flac, mp3 and wav files with 09w-3 and they work good on AMD 3x processor!

But still why older versions had no problem at all. though it doesn't matter much, I guess..

Great!    Grin

Thanks.
