1  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Tidal Login failed on: August 27, 2023, 11:52:11 am
Hi Peter,

I am back here again after doing other stuff like building a new house, getting married, …
I was not happy with the sound in my new music room, but I fixed it now and enjoying again listening with my Phasure system.

Today I tried to login into Tidal, but the login failed. Could this Tidal issue be fixed?
Do I maybe need a updrade of XXHE to be able to login into Tidal?
Anyway I would like to install a new XXHE version on my new laptop especially for downloading from Tidal.

Kind regards
Richard

Hi Peter,

as  release 2.11 of XXHE is on the way, I would like to ask you if a solution could be found with this new release for the cover art problem when using a NAS as music storage.

I am a happy user of your excelent technology for more than three years now, but all this time without seeing the cover art when playing unattended from my Synology NAS.

Therfore I again did some testing with the same results as described above some time ago:
- playing in attended mode, cover art is always there
- playing WAVE-files unattended, cover art is always there
- playing FLAC-files cover art does not show up in unattended mode

Something maybe new to this topic, I found out:
After loading an album in FLAC format into the playlist the folder.jpg on my synology NAS obvioulsly isn‘t closed by the operation system of the NAS. In this state it is for example not possible to rename or remove folder.jpg on the NAS.
When the same album in WAVE format is loaded into the playlist, folder.jpg does not stay open. It can be handler freely.

So, I guess - or better hope - that this could be the reason that the coverart is not shown when playing FLAC- files in unattended mode, because the OS of the NAS may not allow another access to folder.jpg.

Maybe a simple „close“ command after loading folder.jpg in XXHE would solve this long lasting problem.
Peter, is it possible that you include this kind of fix into release 2.11 ?

Kind regards
Richard
4  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 2.10 sound quality on: April 14, 2019, 05:40:05 pm
Hi there,

since a few weeks I am using the new settings for Q1 and Q1x:
15 x20. With the small SFS = 0,69 the sound is lot better now, more precise and dynamic. The sound stage improved too.
Before that parameter change the sound was a bit „smearing“ and I wasn‘t sure about my new speakers...

Thanks a lot to all of you who found these new Q1/Q1x settings!

During the last months I also tried different values for balanced load between 8 and 16. I ended up with 12.

Kind regards
Richard

Hi Peter,

after being skiing for a week in the Alps, I plugged in the new replacement Lush^2 right now.  Ohh, it´s so much better than my old (maybe too long) Lush.
Thank‘s a lot, Peter!

I feel really bad now that I haven‘t sent you back the broken one yet... and the money too...
I will do it tomorrow... promised!

Kind regards
Richard

Hi Peter,

about a week ago I sent you the following email:

Quote
Hi Peter,

I felt pretty safe in Colombia, safer than in Europe somehow.
I am back in Austria now. So please have the new cable mailed to me.
I will wire you the 45€.

Thanks a lot
Richard

I don‘t know if you got this email, because I didn‘t get an answer and no new lush^2 arrived so far.

Kind regards
Richard

7  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 2.10 sound quality on: January 02, 2019, 08:44:31 am
Hi Peter,

first I repeat, what I have written you in the email yesterday, when I couldn’t enter the forum:

For the second day now I enjoy listening with the new SQ settings you recently suggested. In the beginning I was not sure, if for my setup with the new speakers it isn‘t a bit too much of the good: basses strong, accurate and punchy... The more I listen the more I love it this way! The highs are much clearer and the soundstage is tremendous!
I also tried slighly different settings for SFS, Q1x and Nervous Rate, but didn‘t find any better so far.

Yesterday evening I tried once more a slightly different SFS: 0.89  (=0.7 + 0.19). The highs are not as crisp and as sparkling as with 0.69, but the soundstage is still great it sounds a bit softer, more musical... in my setup.

Kind regards
Richard

Hi Peter,

a few weeks ago it became harder and harder to get my NOS1a
recognised by my Mach III when they were connected with my Lush^2. I had to try more nad more often, plug the Lush^2 in and out and so on...
With other USB cables like my Lush^1 and others connecting the two devices was never a problem.

Finally, when my Lush^2 completly refused to work, I messured this Lush^2 with my multimeter and found out that there was a contact between one of the inner USB pins with the outer metal (connected to the black cable) of the PC-side plug.
That made me curious and I cut this plug open to have a look inside. The 4 inner pin cables are kind of crimped together (including their plastic shield). After I had bent apart this crimping the contact failure described above was gone. My Lush^2 is working again, but connecting the two devices is still not as easy as with other USB cables.
And I got the impression, that the sound is smearing now when this Lush^2 is used. This impression may also be caused by my new speakers though.
Therefore I play music with my old Lush^1 most of the times now, what works and sounds great with my new SQ settings, what I posted today.

Peter, what would you suggest to do? Shall I send you this broken and maybe not well repaired Lush^2 ?

Kind regards
Richard

Hi there,

I also tried some different SQ settings during the last weeks. I got new, more voluminous speakers and therefore had to change something, because esspecially the basses became annoying sometimes.

So..., SFS=100.19 is much better than SFS=140.19, what I had before.

Nervous Rate is now down to 4 (it was betwenn 16 and 20,  what had a pretty big impact, when SFS was as high as 140.19 to make the sound a bit smoother). Now the lower values sound better, clearer without doing it too much.

Q1x=11 now, as I hadn’t so good results with higher valies like Q1x=20 (smearing a bit).

Kind regards
Richard
10  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: Phasure Mach III Audio PC with Linear Power Supply on: November 16, 2018, 08:12:18 pm
Hi there,

after a few more weeks of listening with my new Mach III, without visiting this forum, I was wondering today: Why there are no new messages under this topic?
But then I thought: yes... most likely all others are just enjoying the superb sound as I do and there is no need to go further towards the better because it is hard to imagine that there is any better (although we all know that there always is something to improve).
For more than a month now, like never before, I am just pleased with the SQ and there is no more intention to change anything.
Ok, once I tried different settings of the Lush^2 but came back to the original one. That‘s all I did.
So, I don‘t want to repeat what I already stated above. I just want to confirm it, because after some time of listening, you really know...

Peter, one more time I want to say: thank you!
11  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: Phasure Mach III Audio PC with Linear Power Supply on: October 20, 2018, 10:33:26 pm
Hi Peter,

maybe you wonder why you didn’t get any messages from me after you sent me my new Mach III with the Lush^2 more than two weeks ago.

The installation into my home network etc. was done in 1/2 hour without any problems, as this one is already the third Stealth you made for me in the last 2 1/2 years ;-)
The first short listening sessions before I travelled to Switzerland and again to Croatia exceeded all my expectations by far.

But today, after I finally changed the processor settings in the BIOS to 10/20 cores, I am completly bemazed.
There is ease and airiness in the sound, incredible finesse and clarity in the soundstage. Precision and warmth combined in a way I wouldn‘t have thought that it’s possible at all.

And... this kind of ease what I sometimes experienced with top level vinyl recordings on a top level turntable comes together with spectacular 3D resolution what vinyl will never give you. So... the best of both worlds, I would say.

Thank you, Peter!

Richard

Hi Peter,

timing looks ok for me as I will be sailing until the beginning of September. So if the Mach III will be finished in September, that would be great.
So, please send me the invoice. Delivery and billing adress as always.

And I would like to try a shorter "lush", like 1m or so. Please put it on the invoice too.

Kind regards
Richard
13  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 2.10 sound quality on: August 07, 2018, 01:33:12 pm
After reading these post I did some tries with much higher SFS values for my Stealh Mach II and reduced Q1x significantly.

SFS = 140.19 doesn't work with the Mach II, it's pretty spurious
SFS = 70.19 brings amazingly good sound stage, but SQ? It sounds too loud, due to distortion I guess.
SFS = 35.19 works nicely when Q1x is down to 2 or so. That's what I am trying now.

SFS seems to be limited somewhere there with my Mach II. But trying such high SFS gave me kind of an idea what it could sound like, holographic, spooky, ....

So, Peter, I need a Mach III. There is no way around I think, althouh this would be my third Stealth already within 2.5 years  scratching
What will be the delivery time when I order one now?

Kind regards
Richard
14  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Crack Detect issues using normal Ram OS on: June 22, 2018, 10:19:20 am
Ok, Peter,

I didn't know that it's related to AP filter.
Custom filter works well with these tracks.

Richard
15  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Crack Detect issues using normal Ram OS on: June 21, 2018, 07:33:28 pm
Peter, I had this kind of issues very rarely:

24 bit second stage crack dedect !  -> 34
playback has been stopped

But since yesterday it happend for 4 different tracks. I tried with different SFS setting and it still happens.
All these tracks play well with other players. Nothing strange to hear. I have downloaded these track from Tidal and Beatport, they are no rips (at least they shouldn't be).

Download from Tidal:
Artist: "KMLN", Album: "2015 - Alhambra"
The crack detect error occours for the first 3 tracks of this album.

What's maybe interesting: The first track "Alhambra (Original).flac" I also downloaded from Beatport in aiff format and then converted it to flac. Same thing: crack detect occours for both versions.

What to do about this?

Kind regards
Richard
