Yes, well, I agree the XX crowd seems to mainly discuss older non-jazz and non classical music (although I remember Manni talking about listening to classical music). I agree that it would be nice to have more feedback on Jazz and good classical recordings. Especially the classical recordings, would be good to share info on exceptional recordings since there are so many bad recordings out there when it comes to classical music. Usually the good recordings seem to be not very interesting from a musical standpoint whereas musically interesting recordings are often old or just plain bad.

Hi Ramesh,
In my experience, what you change in the ASRock program has to be changed again after every reboot. Maybe I did that wrong but that was how it went in my XXHE pc. Changing the fan values in the bios did stick in my case.

Hi Hans,
The Stealth does not have any fans running. And the one in there for safety is not (PWM) controlled.
Regards and thanks ! Peter
Hi Peter, That was clear to me, but Ramesh was complaining about fan noise from the XXHE PC if I understood his post correctly, not the Stealth PC. And I have just enjoyed going through all these settings myself as you know :-). Hans

Hi Peter, Here is the screenshot. I am not sure if it will show up because I attached it as a file. As said, if I select a base OS from this screen then it will only boot me into the service OS. If I select a RAM OS then everything works as expected . Regards Hans

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Strangeness in RAM OS

Hi,
I have some strange behaviour of my RAM OS disk. After successfully upgrading the service OS as Peter described I can now boot only into the service OS and the RAM OS'es but not into the base OS'es. I select a base OS in xxhe to boot into, press apply and then reboot but it goes staright into the service OS and not the base OS that I selected. If I then look in xxhe which OS I selected for booting it points to the service OS, which is definitely not what I selected (I am very sure of that after trying a few times now). Any idea what I can do to boot into the base OS (the RAM OS'es start fine which to me is strange becuase it is the same as the base just booted from RAM if I understand it correctly).
I hope this description makes sense. If not then I can try to post some screenshots, not entirely sure that that will be informative so I did not do it straight away.
Regards
Hans

Hi Peter, Have been playing around with it, but if I understand this correctly I can not set it up so that the 3.5" disk and the 2.5" disk are bootable (where boot order would be set so as to boot from 2.5" first of course since that is the ram os)? I can only set it up so that it either boots from 2.5" or from 3.5". Is that interpretation correct ( a bit annoying if it is, but hey, so is life I guess ). Hans

Yes, problem solved indeed. I had to change a lot of settings but now it works again. There is still one strange issue left though and that is the following: in the bios I can only select if the computer boots from 1 - the 3.5" bay or the DVD, or 2 - the 2.5" bay or the DVD. For some reason that I do not understand yet I cannot get it to boot from all three (not all three at the same time of course, that is not what I am trying ). In the boot order I can only pick the DVD and the 3.5" bay or the 2.5" bay even though I just cannot select that. I checked the bios manual for this, but from that I understand that it should be able to do it, but no... The reason I wanted this is because the 2.5" disk that contains win8 gives me a boot error that I thought I could fix when I booted from the 3.5" bay and then fix the 2.5". But that did not work. When I boot from the 3.5" harddisk I cannot even find the 2.5" harddisk in the explorer (or the dvd for that matter), so although the computer works again, there is still some strangeness going on. Hehe, quite on the contrary, I bought a very fancy set of screwdrivers just for the occasion. What I will admit though is that I am too clumsy to use them correctly I will continue the process this afternoon but I guess your suggestion of accidentally hitting the reset button is what may have happened because I was putting the keyboard connection elsewhere. Hi Peter, One babystep every day will get you to the goal hopefully. I find it is hopeless to unscrew the parts of the PC in such a way that I can safely put it back together. That probably tells you a lot about my experience with hardware . So I thought of another way to test the cables instead since it seems to be a connector problem as you described. First I thought: maybe I can insert the 2.5" disk into on of the 3.5" bays and see if that works. That was unsuccessful because I cannot get it in safely (my fingers just do not reach that far into the bay, simple physical problem). Then I thought: but I can put in an empty 3.5" harddisk. That works. I can get that in. So how can I test the cables now? Well my thinking is that if I now try to install windows on the empty disk from the dvd player then I may find out if I can boot from that drive. So that is what I did. Guess what; I cannot install windows on that 3.5" drive. It gives me the following message when I select the drive to install windows on: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."So that is a clue that there is something with the controller and not the cable since this is a different cable than the one servicing the 2.5" bay. So then the next step was to insert a 2.5" disk in the "faulty" bay (the one under the dvd player that is supposed to take the 2.5" disks) and see if I could install windows there. Same message appears. This to me is a clue that the cables and connectors to both bays are most probably fine (or they are both faulty but that seems a bit unlikely). That leaves us with the message pointing to the controller and the BIOS. So now if I understood what the message tries to tell me I could look in the BIOS and see what I could do about it. Any chance that you know where I would need to look in the BIOS? Regards Hans
