Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / XXHighEnd Model 2.0 and Mac driver?
|
on: May 17, 2015, 01:37:22 pm
|
Hi Peter, I run my Nos1a with a Windows 7 PC, but I also have a Mac around that I'm tempted to try instead. Maybe I missed it, but I wasn't clear how a Mac driver would work under the new XXHighEnd. I would be running Windows on Bootcamp and then have the Mac driver installed in the Bootcamp partition? Thanks, Tim

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / new JRiver feature passing audio through
|

New Windows version of JRiver has ability to route audio apps through JRiver, such as Spotify, Tidal etc. I wondered if it would route XXHighEnd also to my NOS1a? I am totally comfortable with XXH but my wife and kids find it baffling and being able to run JRiver would enhance family happiness. http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=92593.0Quote: "When you install MC 20.0.41 or higher, a WDM driver is also installed. In Windows Control Panel > Sound, you can set Media Center as the default device. This means Media Center will capture any output from any program. It will capture the output to the active zone. You're free to use any and all the DSP richness of Media Center on the stream."

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / PHase Alignment and active speakers
|

Peter- not sure if you can answer this one. I go right from NOS1 to K&H active speakers so I can't test for a DC on the speaker out terminal as you post. Is there any way I can tell what will happen if I engage PA? Is there a safe way to tiptoe in, with lots of attenuation? Or nothing but cross my fingers? Thanks! Tim

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Get ready ? (0.9z-7)

I too appreciate all the time that Peter evidently takes to make XXHighEnd better. I'm happy to pay for a new license.
One idea: for a manual it might actually be better to have editors besides Peter. It's not only your English, Peter! It's that you're very close to the product and it would be good to have some of it written by users. I wonder if there could be a wiki and/or Google/Dropbox set of documents that at least some users could edit and develop once 0.9z-7 is released.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: PC Tweak for NOS1 async USB

I guess Peter doesn't put too much stock in USB cables improving sound, or we would have heard about it. I have no direct experience with comparing high priced USB cables to regular ones, but I give the benefit of the doubt to experienced listeners who do claim a difference. If the main benefit of better cables is to minimize contaminating the DAC with the PC power, then what about the Opticis fiber optic USB cable (mentioned in Computer Audiophile)? Complete galvanic isolation. At that point, the only (??) computer influence left on the sound should be the RFI?

Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / tablet or compact keyboard monitor as PC interface?
|

Hi All,
I wonder if some of you have tried a very compact (physically) way to control your PCs. The idea of a standard keyboard, mouse and monitor controlling my PC in the living room to play music doesn't appeal to me visually. I was thinking of using my iPad, but then I'd have to use wifi, which Peter doesn't endorse. I was wondering if any of you have experience with a tablet or very small (touch-screen?) monitor that would look very inconspicuous, but have a wired connection to the music PC. Thanks! Tim

Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Phasure NOS1 USB DAC for MAC

Thanks for the detailed explanation Peter. I'm convinced that you're on to the right approach with the NOS 1. I don't understand why so many "computer audiophiles" don't seem to want to take advantage of what a computer can do in the way of filtering prior to sending data to a dac. Now I see from your explanation that the way iTunes and Audirvana do the upsampling is pretty different as far as capturing a steep transient. I wasn't sure how much Audirvana just used the same SRC as iTunes and it seems like they're quite different.
