1  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: UEFI & GPT Boot Problem on: April 21, 2014, 07:38:56 pm
There are some things to consider :

some HDD just tell you lies about the format when it comes to 4k vs 512  ( notice also the compatibility with the old u$ OS - I couldn't even name it , s*** ) . Truly formatting a 4k disk is not all that easy for beginners and also since u$ doesn't offer tools at the installation . I am not aware of true 4k disk right now , all of them *claimed* are a mix between 512 and 4k ...

Uefi works good to me . I can install in UEFI  from both DVD or USB stick .

Today I can't see why use MBR , which is not bad of course  .... but this is year 2014 .

Many of the troubles also arise when the disks have some broken sectors , and rarely, u$ or even the dedicated software from HDD producer  tell that the disk is to trow in the trash .

Just my thinking ....

Edit : to me there are differences using 4k HDD in performance ( look at some 500GB going around these days ) no matter what you do, some things are just different with that respect to the 512. If and only if the 4k is properly formatted it will  reach its speed , otherwise poor performance is in order .
2  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Windows 8 disappointment. on: August 27, 2013, 09:23:36 am
Coen,

At least for me W7 by now sounds totally distorted, no matter how happy I was only a few months ago.

Regards,
Peter

That is my experience also , I remember going to a couple of concerts in the last times using W7 , and ... and .... remember commenting like : nobody would mix a record the way I listen to it in W7 ...

Hello ,

see also : http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=2588.0

we examined by email the problem and it turned out that it was Windows Defender interacting with XXHE .

detailed experience : you have to shut down windows defender manually .
5  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Windows 8 - Upgrade or Fresh Install on: June 17, 2013, 12:48:03 pm
What is clear to me at least , is that W8.1 will be an actual "Upgrade" again . Then we will see , and probably someone like me will try it , if to use it or not to use it .
From scratch or not , well we'll see .
6  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Windows 8 - Upgrade or Fresh Install on: June 17, 2013, 12:44:58 pm
I don't know what this "recommended upgrade path" means, but to me it looks like the original question from Arvind (plus my response to that) ? ...

Peter

-Windows tell you to download their Upgrade Assistant software and follow it's instructions. See link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8

I guess this is the path the majority of users will follow, unless there is a *better* route of upgrading?

The upgrade assistant actually allows to purchase W8 and through the process save it as an ISO file to burn into DVD . After that the dvd will be your installer media . Choosing advanced options there is the possibility ( as posted above already ) to wipe out all the partitions of the previous OS ( which AFAIK doesnt need to be activated itself ) and go ahead to W8

In my experience the bootable USB stick is handy *when* you explicity want to boot in UEFI . Not all DVD's are make up for UEFI , even the ones that comes from the Windows Upgrade tool . Moreover , if your motherboard is set up for a Windows boot loader , and *not* a legacy OS , that is when your mobo will not see the DVD somehow .

There is also a way to format the USB stick in FAT 32 by the command prompt ( terminal ) and copy all the files of the DVD into it with explorer , and obtain that way a UEFI bootable media , without the W7 tool .

I doesn't really change a thing . I boot into minimized OS , bring up XXHE without changes , press play in unattended and then soon after the system just log out the user automatically , then after the log in all is to bring up again , hot keys included .

Ok ,

did try the W7 shell , and the thing still behave the same , giving the error reported in the picture below .

This error remains also at the next login unless a reboot is applied .

Did you try "Shut off ALL Services" ?

Yes I did , same behaviour ...

Btw I now wonder ... did you install that W7 Shell ?
So really, I have always been testing with that active (which eliminates the Metro shell fully), so now I don't know what happens without that Shell.

Please let me know !

I did not install that .

Going to try it !
Will let you know :-)

thanks

Peter ,

I confirm normal W8.
It is happening either in normal OS or minimized OS.
To go in minimized OS , " stop remaining services " is required . Once in minimized OS , have to uncheck    " stop remaining services " to play Unattended .

13  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Unable to engage " stop remaining services " in W8 on: May 27, 2013, 10:26:43 am
In W8 , also with previous versions of the Player , when it try to engage " stop remaining services " in Unattended mode , it happens that the system just log out the user .

So after that I have to re-login in my account , and there is a message about a service that was unable to start so the user could not loging.

That's all . Any help?

Thanks

14  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 09-z9 impressions on: May 27, 2013, 10:22:01 am
W8 . My impressions are good , quite good . We start with a new era in music through XXHE .

Great job . I may add that everything is working for the exception of Alt-m ; another problem in W8 ( also other versions ) is that the system is unable to engage " stop remaining services " , but I'll open a thread for that .

15  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / some w8 scratching on: April 21, 2013, 05:08:18 pm
I have been playing with w8 and " desktops "  , the only application aside the " classic windows button " stuff that did show maybe some interesting behavior .For example the working of the button "icons" in XXHE.  Of course it could be completely pointless , I don't know .
If you are willing to try it that is the link :  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc817881.aspx .

Also , some things emerged in http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=2546.0 ( xxEngine3.exe, ticks at SFS boundaries, and perhaps new clues ) are visible through desktops , and how the multilayer thing in w8 is working . So , waiting for the new XXHE version here ! .
