91  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: The cheapest upgrade : B'ASS on: April 07, 2016, 10:19:55 am
In my setup the Nos1a has balanced BNC outputs to the balanced power amps, so 2 BNC's/Blaxius's per channel.

How will the B'ASS look like (and cost) in my situation?

Hey Stanley,

Yes, you are an exception I did not think about. And aplogies, because you actually have the best connection of all of us !

This is what I added to the original post about it :

4.
With 2x BNC-In and 2x BNC-Out. Balanced Stereo B'ASS. Output Impedance 2x 75 Ohms.
Including Headphone output stereo jack (Single Ended). Output Impedance 2.9 Ohms.
920 euros.

The price follows from the difference between RCA and normal BNC (130 euros) with the notice that I grant this situation actually 1 pair of Blaxius for free (not completely true, but anyway think of 2 pair of Blaxius for now 130 euros).
Happy to do this for you (but no obligations from your side of course).

Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for making option 4. available (Balanced Stereo B'ASS).

I reread the posts of this topic to try to explain the B’ASS principle to an audio friend. It may be my lack of understanding amplification, but I don't get a clear picture of what the B'ASS does.

Excuse me for asking, but could you, in short, explain what the B’ASS exactly does to the signal arriving from the NOS1 and why the amplifiers (and subsequently the sound from the speakers) benefit from the B’ASS?

This also helps finding budget  evil

Thanks.

Regards,
Stanley

So far I like the user interface of 2.04 a lot better than the 1.186a:)

Let's hope you will experience better SQ also  prankster

I will come and check out soon.

Just did.

Mocha WOL works great. iPad connects via wifi to router and wakes up Music server PC via LAN. Configuration only needs MAC adres of PC.

 very happy

Good idea Arjan.

I control my Music Server PC from my iPad and I see similar WOL apps exist for IOS.

Will try it this weekend.

Today only my PC power supply is outside of the case and I make very specific adjustments to the sound with the type of footer underneath it.

Hi Brian,

Could you please elaborate on the footers you use underneath the psu?

I was planning to do something similar and even put the psu on the floor, but then I have to find/make longer wires.

97  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: OS preference for Music Server on: February 13, 2016, 08:45:08 pm
Hi Juan,

Thank you for the details of your setup.

I have it running smoothly now in this configuration:

Tablet <RDC-WiFi> router <cable> MusicPC <RDC-cable> AudioPC.

The router is a "dedicated" router, not standard connected to the internet. For the home network I have a separate router which can be connected to the "audio router" if necessary.

The music server pc is a simple ex-corprate desktop with my music HDD built in (http://www.micmac-computers.nl/webshop/pc-systemen/detail/857/uitverkoop---fujitsu-siemens-esprimo-e5730---core2duo-2x-300ghz---4gb---160gb---dvdrw.html).

I think for the purpose of ripping/organizing music files Windows 10 doesn't add much, so I let Windows 7 run.

Next: OS in RAM disk, I'm reading the tutorials now  wacko bzz.

Hi Mani,

I recently set up my system with a music server PC and started with Windows 10. I couldn't get it going (problems with network) and in the end installed Windows 7 Ultimate, which works fine, .... now. The network problems probably had to do more with not working in normal OS and it does work minimized.

In back sight I'm not so sure anymore that Windows10 was to blame for the problems and I think I read that Juan uses Windows 10 for his music server.

99  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Music Server (You should try it) on: February 11, 2016, 10:31:25 am
Since a few days I also have this setup running and I can confirm the above mentioned benefits for SQ.
I was quite surprised the sound is more "present" in terms of sound stage and tonality.

For the music server I bought a cheap ex lease corporate desktop computer (Fujitsu) that is quiet and flexible for changing disks etc.

Now I'm collecting courage (and €) for the next step, the RAM OS.

Peter, Alain,

I just returned and had a quick look. You're right. In minimized all is working fine!

I got stuck in my "logic" that first all should work in normal OS-attended, then in normal OS-unattended and then go to minimized and try the same.

But unattended-minimized seems to work just fine.

I will do further tests tomorrow, but for now it looks promising. very happy

Thanks a lot!

Stanley

Hi Peter,

Yes, I have been testing and googling and I re-entered the IP-adresses of the network adapters, and disabled the Firewalls.

All the network and RDC connections seem to work now, but only in normal OS and Attended. As soon as I play Unattended the AudioPC gets disconnected from the network and also (because of) RDC is lost. Only rebooting the AudioPC brings it back in the network.

Now I will have to leave for social obligations. I will look again tomorrow night.

Thanks for now.

Stanley, hmm ...

I thought it could be appriciated as "blaming" BUT ...
what I never expected is that you made a writing mistake there. So did you, or do I still not understand ?

What I meant to say was :
Windows 10 is so much flawed that indeed it can be so (in my vision) that the remote (your music server) comes up with that message. So I did not try to tell that you did not make much sense, but that W10 does not.

But I now understand that it is you after all ?
haha

Please notice :
If you indeed meant the Audio PC coming up with that message, than at this moment I see no real reason to change the OS of your Music Server PC. At least there's nothing explicitly wrong, now. W10 on the Music Server side can still be the cause of your issue, but careful - because that other topic of Bert looks mighty much like it (and we don't use W10 on the remotes = Music Server). Ok ?

Hi Peter,

In the mean time, before (I read) your latest posts, I installed Windows 7 and the issues stay, or even get worse. It all has to do with me not really understanding how to properly setup a network.

What happens now is that when the PC's reboot, the network is gone and I get this message "network discovery and file sharing are turned off". This happens on BOTH pc's (so there springs the confusion about "on the AudioPC or on the MusicPC".

I haven't been able to go into minimized OS, because in normal OS I have the issue that when I play music unattended the RDC connection gets lost (which didn't happen when Windows10 was on the MusicPC).

So a lot (or all) has to do with the "white spot" in my brain when it comes to networking (with pc's that is).

Do I need to set up a "private" or "public" network?

Why does the network discovery shuts off after rebooting?

Why is the RDC lost when XXHE plays unattended?

(all this is in normal OS, not yet tried minimized)

Cry

Stanley

So make that server a W8.1 or W8 or W7 or ...

Ok, will do.

Thanks Peter

I was reading this again :

Quote
When booting back into normal OS, I first get the message on the MusicPC “network discovery and file sharing are turned off”.

Doesn't really make sense, does it ?
Emphasis is mine.

105  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / RDC – Minimized problem on: February 05, 2016, 12:35:13 am
I now have the following setup:

Tablet (RDC) <-> WiFi <-> Router (dedicated, not  connected to internet) <-> LAN cable <-> MusicPC (RDC) <-> LAN cable (crossed) <-> AudioPC.

When the AudioPC is in normal OS all works fine, but when the AudioPC is booted into minimized OS, RDC can’t connect anymore from the MusicPC to the AudioPC (connection tablet (WiFi) <-> MusicPC works fine). When booting back into normal OS, I first get the message on the MusicPC “network discovery and file sharing are turned off”. Turning this on restores the RDC connection.

Both computers are on Windows 10 (586.0 and 586.xx).

“Keep LAN connection”, “Persist” and “use RDC” are “on”.

Any idea what’s wrong here.

Regards,
Stanley
