286  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: SQ and BIOS? on: October 05, 2012, 06:42:18 pm

Well, I am not sure, but I think you better reformat your OS disk at least in such a case. Maybe others know better ?

Peter

But uh, doesn't reformate the OS disk implicate reinstalling W7?

287  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / SQ and BIOS? on: October 05, 2012, 08:52:54 am
Since I updated the BIOS of my Asus Mobo, and reinstalled W7, I don’t seem to get the same SQ as before unhappy. But I’m not sure the BIOS update can be the cause, or that it's something else . .

However Asus released a next version of the BIOS shortly after, and advises to use the new version. So it seems logical to update the BIOS again.

My question, as a newbe in the world of Windows: is it necessary to also reinstall W7 (and thus reinstall and reactivate XXHE)?

Thanks!

Hi Peter,

I send you an email.
I got an activation code of "zero".
Can you please send a new code?
Thank you!
289  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: NOS1 users with cracks on: September 08, 2012, 04:31:06 pm
I have a small "tick" at the start of a track or album (like a needle of a turntable landing on vinyl) and an small "echo" at stop (repeat of last sample?). And sometimes I have a "crack" after some 10 seconds.

But I have the impression that the "tick" is not as "loud" and even absent and the "crack" is absent when I wait longer to press ALT-P and let Windows come to rest  bored (obviously I use "do not start playback at all").

Does this make sense and is there an explanation for this?

Cheers,
Stanley
290  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9z-705 vs 0.9z-61c on: July 30, 2012, 08:52:45 pm
I've listened to only a few albums until now and I can only confirm what is mentioned above. Clean, pleasant, detailed sound, wide soundstage and a "right" timbre. Yes, XXHG, and especially 0.9z-705, for me makes digital finally come of age.

294  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: Which Tablet on: June 03, 2012, 11:37:41 am
I have an iMac and windows laptop and I'm not religious concerning platforms. I will need a tablet for XX HG and occasionally for surfing and reading email while travelling, nothing more.
I'm thinking of a Android thingy (which?) or an iPad2 (which can be had for under 400 euros).
Anyone?

Thanks,
Stanley

296  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Gettin message "Out of memory - Total picture size . . . " on: May 22, 2012, 10:47:48 pm
Possible this question has been asked before, but I wasn't able to find the answer.

With some albums I'm getting the message "Out of memory". "Total picture size in Cover art Pane too large? (can be 1000's of pictures)".
"Length of cover art file is zero?"

This happens with some albums, but I can't see why (the file-size isn't  larger than albums that don't show this message.

Anyone please?

Thanks.

regards,
Stanley

Now, what about something like Coverart showing in that right leg of the NOS1 eh ? ... oh, oops. Yea, so stupid. Let me promise that for the next version after 0.9z-7 (and not ages after it).

Ah, that's where the mysterious display is for. Didn't know that. This will really look cool!

My working pc is almost like yours, maybe I´ll try it with the NOS1 to see how it sounds, the mb that I use in that pc is a P8H67-M EVO, with a i7 2.600 and 16Gb kingstone, a pasive GPU and it is very silent also. Making some arrangements I could make almost a clone of yours. I´ll follow your changes to see if I can apply it to my computer and compare it with the one that I have now dedicated to music.

Interesting, curious for your results.

The Modu MD1 looks very nice, where did you buy it, in Italy?

Yes, from http://www.modushop.biz/. Good quality, reasonable prizing and fast delivery.

Hi all,

OK, now it’s my turn to show you my PC. I recently got my Phasure NOS1 and I build a PC for XXHighend exclusively.

Thanks to all the valuable information on this site I borrowed ideas and knowledge and brew my own specs. The goal was a simple PC, with low noise levels and an audio-component appearance.

PC case: Modu MD11

Processor: Intel i7-2600S for low power consumption (65W)

Mb: Asus P8H67-V

RAM: Kingston DDR3 16GB

HDD 1: WD Velociraptor 300Gb (for XXHighEnd and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits)

HDD 2: WD 2Tb Caviar Green

DVD drive: Plextor

USB 3.0 PCIe: ASRock

PSU: Silentmaxx FanlessII. With 500 Watt it is oversized, but one of the best fanless PSU’s

I used no casefans, only 1 NoiseBlocker 120mm fan on a Thermalright AXP-140RT low profile CPU cooler. Later I will experiment with the fan disabled.

For the XXHG settings please see my profile below.

And the SQ? I’m very impressed and pleased. It surpasses all the DAC’s I tried here (DCS Debussy, Audionote 4, PSAudio, Bryston, etc).

Finally I’m released of that hard to describe digital fog nea that many people don’t seem to notice, but of which I became allergic for the past 25 years.

Thanks Peter and other forum members.

(How do I downsize this pic??)
