Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Can´t change the xQ1 factor to 2

I get the same message, but when I close XXHE and start again I don't get the message and I can play with SFS 2, Q1:14 and xQ1:2.
But it introduces a "crack" after a few seconds in the first track which scares the sh*t out of me. So its SFS 2, Q1:14 and xQ1:1 for now.

Stanly,
I can't exactly follow (didn't take much time for that either) but if you are talking about the situation that your OS drive now has become G: ... do not try to rename that to C:. Too much is dependent on it and you may run into errors you can't solve. So, just let it remain G:. There is no problem with that, except you can't use G: for something else anymore. If this is your situation at all ...
Peter
Thanks Peter, Yes that was what I was trying to ask: does it matter that the OS is on "G" or on anything but C: for normally it is on C:. Possibly a trivial question, but I wasn't really sure. Stanley

First back up your music drive (you proberbly don't want to re-rip 100s of CDs).
Then from there I would try to add a second partition to the music drive. I would make it at least 20gb so windows does not run out of space. Often you can add a partition and not lose the data on the drive but it's not guaranteed which is why you must back up your music.
Install windows on to the new partition and then install XX on the music drive either in the new windows partition or the partition where the music lives.
This should give you all of your OS music and XX on the same single physical HDD.
Hope this helps,
Nick. [/quote]
A question to avoid mistakes: This second partition on the music HDD needs a drive letter to be allocated.
When I attribute it f.i. the letter "G:" and install W7 and XXHE on it, what do I do next? The former HDD with W7 and XXHE, the "C:" drive, will have to be disabled. Do I then rename new "G:" to "C:" to have a proper boot?
Thanks
Stanley

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: HPET Timer - Your new Tweak ?

I disabled the HPET timer in my mobo and this resulted in a better, yes you might call it more analogue, presentation. I also varied the SFS settings (2, 10, 20) and found 2 to have a bit more detail and maybe more dynamical, but also more fatiguing. At 20 I found the "tone" or "timbre" to be real and convincing (this is an important "parameter" for me). Higher values started to veil the sound a bit.
Next is to compare the RAMdrive I use now with a Hitachi SATA HDD I just got. keep you informed.

Thanks for tips and tricks. It works beautifully now. This is what I did:
- Bring back W7 from minimized mode - Install .NET 4 - Install RamDisk sw and choose FAT32 and 4000 MB. - Reboot (or maybe 2 times). - Then you have image space (extra hdd) on your RAM. - Then go to the second tab in RAMDisk, Load and Save, and press "Save Disk Image Now" and select checkbox "Load Disk Image at Startup" - Reboot - Then select checkbox "Save Disk Image on Shutdown" - Reboot - Rightclick mouse format HDD to NTFS and 512Mb. - Rename “Local drive” to “RAMDisk” - Create folder “Drive” - Try in XXHE (choose “Drive” for 'playback drive') - Engage 'minimize OS' again.
First impression is better SQ, but I have to test it better when I have time.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: SFS Sound Quality Experiences

On my system with current other settings (see below) I found a SFS value of 20. SFS=2 is dynamic and detailed, but is slightly "edgy" with some material, whereas SFS=430 is smooth, but less dynamic and a bit "dull" (it doesn't hold my attention as with low SFS settings).
Next thing I will try is using an old SATA II Hitachi Deskstar 500GB HDD I found as a Playbackdrive, to compare with the current USB3.0 WD Elements 500GB.
And of course, I will try disconnecting the optical drive first, very curious . .
