Title: WOW who let the dogs out ? Post by: Scroobius on October 19, 2009, 08:05:21 pm Ugraded to 09y4 last night from 09x7. WOW what a stupendous improvement. The difference is unbelievable.
Without doubt the single biggest improvement I have ever heard in any system of mine and the best sound I have heard from any system. What did you do Peter ? sounds as though the dogs have been let out. It is pointless to mention specifics because everything is better - it sounds as though the transit packing in the speakers has been taken out !!. I have some software stability problems that I did not have with 09x7 but hope that they can be sorted. When the software is stable I will connect the DAC direct to the power amps - can't wait. All the best hp core duo off ramp audio note 2.1 (very upgraded) audio note pre amp audio note sec mono's. Title: Re: WOW who let the dogs out ? I don't have dogs, so thought to spent my time on some useful things. :) By the time you are ready to eleborate more (if needed) about the stability issues you talk about, please do so (in a separate topic). And you might want to put your setup in your signature which is always convenient for me. All the best, Peter Title: Re: WOW who let the dogs out ? Post by: Scroobius on December 07, 2009, 03:50:33 pm Hi Peter - just thought I would provide an update on sound quality. Stability problems now addressed and runs well in Unattended mode (see separate post in Support area).
My Pace Car re-clocker was set for only 96k operation as it only had one Superclock4 installed. Therefore when using XX I could not play 44.1 native tracks through the pace car I had to take it out of circuit with offramp feeding the DAC direct. Even so the sound quality was just much better than anything I had heard from my system before. Even with the higher jitter levels. But the worm was turning "if this is the sound quality without the pace car what will it sound like with it working". Now I know with NOS1 a re-clocker is not needed as jitter is almost non existent but I am stuck with USB operation for the present with its higher levels of jitter. So I sent my pace car away for a 44.1 Superclock4 to be installed. This would allow both 44.1 & 88.2 operation and it came back last week. Well the sound quality is improved even further. The level of detail and smoothness from ordinary CD recordings is just much higher. You can really hear the emotion in human singing in a way I have never heard from any hi fi system anywhere. The details on symbol brush work, drums in fact everthing is just superb. Just very quickly I tried Foobar which is what I was using before XX and there is no comparison - Foobar like all other players running under Vista just cannot produce anything like the sound quality of XX. The sound quality from my system now is simply stunning. What is also interesting is the comparison between 44.1 operation and 88.2 upsampled with arc prediction which provides a very clear improvement. All the best P Title: Re: WOW who let the dogs out ? I was just wondering ... what means of filtering does your Audio Note use ? (I still have a mod-mod-more-mod 3-sig myself, but it is the old OS type). Peter Title: Re: WOW who let the dogs out ? Post by: Scroobius on December 08, 2009, 07:11:56 pm I have a kit DAC2.1 that has been very very modified. There is no filtering (digital or analogue) at all. I think Audio Note used to use a very gentle analogue filter on the older designs but removed it a few years ago. The DAC I think is 18 bit. Anyway sounds great now. All the best P |
