One More Question (for the moment.....). When playing XX I sometimes get this message from windows: Host Process for Windows Services Has Stopped Working. Seems to me that less is more for music playback so I ignore it as long as xx keeps working, and it mostly does. Is this okay?

Yes, and it is even better. It are these processes which should be eliminated in the first place, and they eliminate themselves because of a lack of resources FOR THEM. Hahaha.

I don't think someone ever encountered any real problem with it. But for example, one of the first which will shutdown is the Spooler service. So, you don't need to print something, because then you'd have a problem indeed.
But as known I think, I will shut them down myself (and bring them up again). Later ...

I have had this problem through all versions of XX. Have pointed it out several times during the years...

The solution is setting both the player and thread priority settings to "Nothing". That solves it.

Prosessor scheme seems to not influence it.

I´ve found this same problem also with 09-3z. If I leave the message on or if I click it off the problem is that even int the case that XX can continue working (not always) there is no way to recover it with AutoHotkey.
I don´t think that the solution should be to set both the player and thread priority settings to Nothing. Any other way to solve it?

The "problem" is that this is normal and just Vista. And no, the solution is not to lower priorities. The "solution" is to remove the message (often sound will be disturbed when it stays there) and it won't come back for that particular service. It can happen 10 times or more though (for different services), depending on the inherent speed of your PC.


Maybe I'm not sure what you mean by this. You mean after such a happening Alt-X doesn't work anymore ?
If that is the case, can it be so that AutoHotkey itself was shut down ? That wouldn't be too convenient. :)


Btw, notice that "we" encourage for this for ourselves by *highering* priorities in the first place, and Vista is "buggy" to this regard (which is a GOOD thing). So if your system really can't stand it, indeed you shouldn't put the (mainly) Thread Prio so high. But it never bothered me for a second. Yes, after a reboot it's the same sequence again ...

Hi all,

Peter has helped me with this ... "service has stopped working" issues over the past few weeks. My situation is very unique and "weird" as  I run dual OS (both W7 64bit and Vista). The weird thing is that the ".... service has stopped working" was *jumping* from Vista to W7 when I rebooted to W7. But I later found out that this contagious effect is from my display driver (ATI Radeon HD 5770) conflict with W7. So once I fixed the driver conflict issue, then running XXHE on W7 is smooth.

So the "... service has stopped working" will only occur when you run XX on vista. They are harmless and only cause jittering since you have to close the service when they pop up. However, you will get use to it soon. At least I am  :)

Yes, when I say that I can´t recover XX with AutoHotkey I mean that Alt-X doesn´t work and that happens once in a while when the "Host Process..." message appears. I think that it happens when I try to do something with the PC while listening. If I don´t do nothing with the message XX works fine but if I try to shut it down the system crashes.
