Title: soundcard question Post by: AUDIODIDAKT on April 04, 2009, 12:19:01 pm hello,
can I put a pci-e creative x-fi card(normally in the green pci-e slot) in a normal pci slot (like the RED one i marked) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 Soundcard CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER X-FI TITANIUM FATAL1TY PCI-e so I create more air and space for videocard Thanx roy Title: Re: soundcard question Post by: PeterSt on April 04, 2009, 01:06:36 pm I don't think so. :(
Already because of the distance to the back being not the same ... Title: Re: soundcard question Post by: AUDIODIDAKT on April 04, 2009, 01:26:00 pm Stupid, stupid, you are right.
But what about the orange slot in the middle?????? Title: Re: soundcard question Post by: Telstar on April 04, 2009, 01:29:50 pm Stupid, stupid, you are right. But what about the orange slot in the middle?????? Yes. Because you can put a pci-e x1 card in ANY pci-e slot, being them x1, x4, x8 or x16 (the latter two look the same). Therefore, you have plenty of choice for your x-fi (but it's not the best choice sonically speaking in its pricerange). Or, you can put the videocard in the orange one (will run x8 or x4, if you dont play games, you wont notice anything) and have more air around the cpu and the soundcard. However, you should be able to use the 2nd PCIe x16 slot ( orange ) , assumming you are not one of those mad gamers that runs dual video cards :teasing: Have a look here for some geek talk ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express) Cheers, Russ EDIT: Telstar pipped me to the post ! Or should I use USB to maybe NOS-dac I'am I little Confused this subject soundcard thru SPDIF to dac or USB tot (nos)dac. roy Title: Re: soundcard question Post by: JohanZ on April 04, 2009, 04:42:09 pm Quote But what is the best soundcard I can get??? RME or M-audio maybe?? Depends on the budget! I am using an Audiotrak HD2 (€100,= Netherlands). Very good soundcard for the money. You can change the opampsif you like! I have used a NOS DAC dddac1543. The soundcard sounds very good and give you more settings to play different formats. Very nice card, Im looking in to it. And what if money isn't 'n issue!! for this poor man I'm building a dac with a CS8420-cs receiver chip If I am right most soundcards have a clock-freq of 24.576 Mhz so is my dac. I wan't to link soundcard with dac with a xclock from tentlabs. grtz roy Title: Re: soundcard question Post by: GerardA on April 04, 2009, 07:01:39 pm Roy,
If you want a good quality external soundcard and you have FireWire on your PC I would recommend the terratec phase (X)24 FW. I just bought my second one for €28. The first was a 24 FW and now a X24FW. Difference is microphone input and optical in/out. Normally they sell for about €300 and they were said to sound better then any regular PC-soundcard/box and to me they sound better then my Rotel RCD990. Maybe they stop selling them? Yes, you can ;) After a VERY long search i settled for this card: http://www.infra-sonic.com/site/p_PCI_quartet.php http://ixbtlabs.com/articles2/proaudio/infrasonic-quartet.html Very similar in specs and SQ to the Audiotrack posted above, it costs 90€ in italy. This little gem has wordclock input and output. As far as I know nothing under 500€ mark comes with a wordclock input. As Peter knows, I'm trying also to get i2s out of it. very, very nice card, now were talking I2S is also possible on the cs8420cs isn't?? or am i confused with AES/EBU Is there a big difference in sound I2S vs SPdif ? The length of the cable becomes less importent ,right! roy Title: Re: soundcard question Post by: PeterSt on April 06, 2009, 02:34:18 pm Quote Is there a big difference in sound I2S vs SPdif ? A whole world ... :) Quote The length of the cable becomes less importent ,right! Not sure why you think that, but when implemented properly it can easily be one meter. Title: Re: soundcard question Post by: Telstar on April 07, 2009, 12:04:54 am The length of the cable becomes less importent ,right! roy False. the i2s cable must be short. Peter says 1m, i think thats the max, but u can always try ;) Title: Re: soundcard question Post by: AUDIODIDAKT on April 08, 2009, 03:28:35 pm what receiver-chip in dac are you using ?? - telstar
to receive I2S from soundcard Title: Re: soundcard question Post by: PeterSt on April 08, 2009, 07:35:17 pm Roy, these are more theories than practice. I have it running though. This is not much about receiver chips when the DAC just can accept it.
But leave it be for now please. Quite some things have to be sorted out, like the soundcard Telstar mentioned. When all has been sorted out and it is working, you will hear about it ... :) |
