Title: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: Jack on January 21, 2009, 10:13:37 pm Hi Peter
I have my own w8 problem, it won't launch. I immediately get the message "XXHighEnd has stopped working" Perhaps a 64bit thing? All previous versions work fine. It's a fresh install in it's own folder on the root of C: as usual. Happy days Jack Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: PeterSt on January 22, 2009, 07:19:05 am Hmm ... can you try the 0.9w-8a from here : w-8 Sound problem (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=702.msg5030#msg5030).
I sure hope that that one goes. Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: SeVeReD on January 22, 2009, 09:19:49 am I've been running all versions since V (that includes the latest W8) on vista prem 64 bit.

Just tried 8a. Same result, same message! Jack Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: PeterSt on January 22, 2009, 12:16:11 pm Can you make a copy of the contents of that message ? Note you can open it for details.
Most probably you can't suffice with one screenshort, because there's a scrollbar. Btw, isn't there another message in between (like save your old settings, blahblah) ? Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: Jack on January 22, 2009, 12:37:45 pm Hi Peter
All I get is one message, no more clues I'm afraid! Jack Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: PeterSt on January 22, 2009, 12:54:34 pm Prrrrt. Well, Windows will inform you when a solution is available, it says. :swoon::teasing::swoon:
Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: PeterSt on January 22, 2009, 01:01:44 pm If you popin an XXHighEnd.exe in that folder (!) from a version you know it worked ...
It then may work again, but next you put back the .exe from 0.9w-8 (again in the same folder). Maybe that helps ? I'm rather clueless, but it should be related to the "saved settings". You can explicitly throw those out too, but I must look up where they sit (somewhere under c:\users\) which is posted on the forum somewhere. Tried that yesterday, no go, I'll stick with w7 & wait for next version to see what happens then. No one's going to die in the meantime! Jack Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: beto on January 22, 2009, 04:16:46 pm w8 runs and sounds great on my Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64, its definitely your setup not w8.

I have found the problem, it was my fault & I'm sorry to have wasted your time (grovel. grovel). When I first unpacked v8 it spread itself all over my C drive, thinking it hadn't worked I did it again. This time, as usual, it unpacked into it's own folder on the root of C: as I mentioned. I was just going to try your solution when I noticed XXHE files all over the place, so I deleted them. Having done so it now runs as it should. So, for whatever reason these random files stopped it from running!? Sorry, what did you say, I'm a what? Happy days Jack Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: PeterSt on January 22, 2009, 09:55:59 pm No Jack, I'm just glad you could solve it.
But I didn't quite get what happened. :grazy: Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: SeVeReD on January 23, 2009, 04:58:11 am No Jack, I'm just glad you could solve it. But I didn't quite get what happened. :grazy: Sounds like he unzipped W8 just onto the C:/ drive; not into a folder. He then deleted all those XXHE files and unzipped W8 into its own folder... and now things work. Title: Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 Post by: Jack on January 23, 2009, 11:50:37 am Hi SeVeReD
That is exactly what happened, W8 didn't like being in 2 locations on the same drive, I guess. But all is well now! Back to the music! Happy Jack |
