Title: Errors in 09v-7 Post by: JohanZ on October 20, 2008, 11:44:35 pm Hi Peter,
After the release of XX09v-7, i changed some settings back Playerprio=Low and Threadprio =Realtime. After some days of errorless listening i was very impressed by the soudquality. Back are the small detaills which draw my attention. Was it this version or the priority setting or both? Some days ago after a start of XX i have got the a Memory Exception error. I could not reset this error. After switching XX off i got the next error "System IO Exception. When i start XX again it gives me the first error again. The solution was to install XX in a new folder. Some days later i have got the spooler error (also in versio 09w-1a) from the past and a show coverart message. Shall i upgrade from Vista Prof to Ultimate? Regards Title: Re: Errors in 09v-7 - sound improvement Post by: PeterSt on October 21, 2008, 04:20:12 am Hi there Johan,
Let me start with the unimportant stuff  ... I can't be sure, but the out of memory looks like something being in a loop there, something with that Favorites.txt. I guess you still have that Favorites.txt in the old XX folder ... would you be so kind to sent me that one ? it almost for sure will help me debug that error. The spooler error ... I must say, I receive more of that lately again, and yesterday for the first time my GUI was back to windows 3.11. This has been a long time ago, but for me it (very very theoretically) indicates that things have got better once again. Careful though, because that is 0.9w-1(a), where things indeed drastically changed. Now on to the important stuff. Quote After some days of errorless listening i was very impressed by the soudquality. You know I like to hand out prizes :) :), and this time you receive one for "discovering" this. Apart from my wife you seem to be the only one ... (publically telling about it); So yes, I guess it is true. Somewhere at heading for 0.9v-7 (which took me a month coming from 0.9v-6a) I changed something in XXEngine3 of which I thought it shouldn't matter to SQ. So, I did it (being kind of afraid it could influence), and didn't pay further attention to it. Was more focused on the particualr solution it should provide (that was about the one missing sample in Cue Files between tracks), and actually forgot about it. But already the next day it came to me that that day, and the day before had some similarities ... things sounded differently from all days before, and I really liked it. Then, that day my wife asked to turn up the volume, and if wives say that, something must be going on. I asked why, and the answer was : it sounds to good. Hmm ... I did not announce it, because the change wasn't "logical" to the sense of what I heard could be reasoned out towards a direction (like I could change towards more bass etc. as has happened in the past), and honestly up till today I can't reason it out. BUT, it is in an area where I can improve (or change anyway) more, so I will be doing that in the near future. Anyway, me, my wife, you, it just must be so, and honestly each and every day since then I hear that character which has come over the sound, and it is a fragility which I can't put to words other than "better fragility". Oh, there was one other user who actually expressed the same (off line) by means of wordings I could definitely recognize, but he changed all of his hardware at the very same time (Hi Dave !). On the Quick Launch bar I always have two or more icons of the different versions of XX for testing purposes. Sometimes I make a mistake instead of stopping one version of XX I'll start another one. The second one can controle the first one, but…… I think that this causes the problem!?! The second one can controle the first one, but…… I think that this causes the problem!?! ah yes ... i have a similar setup and seem to recall on more than one occassion having had 2 instances of XXHE running. Peter .. would it be possible to put in a check that only one instance of XXHE can run, and perhaps something to cover Johan's issue of cross version control ? Thanks, Russ Title: Re: Errors in 09v-7 Post by: PeterSt on November 17, 2008, 01:06:37 pm Nah, there's too much functionality in running two instances, mainly in the area of copying on one, and checking (what to copy etc.) on the other, but also in having setup something in the one (not wanting to destroy that) and checking something else on the other.
Of course you must know that the one who closes down as the last one, saves the -whatever it is- (the first one does too, but it will be overridden by the second (just the last one)). Of course this should not be done with two different versions ! (when the Data folder is the same). Whether this impeeds for JohanZ's problem with the Favorites.txt file is something I will investigate. I suppose i start another version of XX during playback of XX. After deleting the Favorites.txt and the XXDat0001.dao files I get rid of the errors and XX works again. The talk on here has been a bit too technical for me lately so I have just been enjoying the music from XXHighend. I have one or two things to comment on in various sections, but here is the question relevant to 09v-7. Whenever I update the version, I save it to my desktop and overwrite the previous version. This has always gone without hitch, but upgrading from 09w-6 to 09v-7, I get the following error. Unexpected error 0x80004005 and it refuses to upgrade changewp.exe. I have to skip it to complete the process. Title: Re: Errors in 09v-7 Post by: PeterSt on November 23, 2008, 04:08:49 pm Hi Chris,
The only relevant thing I can find on this is that another unzip program might help. For instance, you can let Vista unzip the download, but also WinZip. Or WinRAR, or 7Zip ... there are more. I never heard of it, but please let me know whether you could solve it ... In the mean time, below is a zip of ChangeWP alone, might you need the latest version (this one is from October 19 2008). But maybe you can't unzip that either. :swoon: Regards, Peter Title: Re: Errors in 09v-7 Post by: Chris V on November 23, 2008, 04:19:36 pm Well it took that one just fine.
