Something else:
I sometimes get "glitches" (kind of noise, similar to occational noise when listening FM radio in car) during a track. It can happen anytime during a song, but most often at the end of a song. It only happens with v. 15. not 14. Attended/Unattended doesn't matter. I play uncompressed WAV files.

My brother says it seems that there is some kind of "interuption" from Vista. -Other tasks stealing computer capasity. (He says Vista is running an index program all the time in the background).

When restarting the PC the problem goes away or get reduced. It is more prominent shortly after (first 3-5 minuttes) startup of computer.

I have Vista Ultimate with SP1.

Any idea?

Pedal, do during that occasion any messages from Vista pop up ? like "Host service has been shut down" or similar ?
If not, I do not recognize this. Otherwise, sure yes (and be sure to click away the message then; best is to restart playback).

And if not, could you try to describe better what you mean ?

1. A glitch would be a small repeat of the same sound (samples);
2. Crackling would be very brief soft ticks, a bit similar to vinyl;
3. Cracks would be bursts of obviously wrong data;
4. A hickup would be a small period of no sound.
5. Other ?

You seem to describe 2, but IMO that hardly can be incurred by other (Vista) activities ...

Yes, it sounds like 2 but longer lasting. Like when spoiled beer dryed up and its remainings got stuck in the grooves of your LP.  :grin:

I think it is linked to my new PC. Not XX 14 or 15 in particular.

Checking Task Manager > Resource Monitor > Disk, then it occational happens that XX use up all the DISK capasity. It happens when XX has been closed down brutally (clumsy me/fidling with too many playlists). -Seems like that the old playlist remains "in the system", taxing the computer?

Just waiting (giving Vista some minutes after loading new playlist) and closeing/opening XX properly a couple of times, helps.

On my side, I will investigate if I can shut down some back ground Vista operations.
Also, I just installed 30GB solid state memory for Vista. (It's really lightning quick - loads albums in no time at all!) But maybe I will buy a bigger memory chip.

We will see.

Apart from all this - the sound is dynamite now! For the first time in 25 years I am perfectly happy with the SQ of 16/44 files. So dynamic, so wideband, so transparent, so 3D, so liquid/natural. Who needs hi-rez? Boy o boy!!  :yahoo:

I hope you can tighten up the functionality and "go big" soon. The product is superb and it deserves more users.

I love making playlists:
Best of Dylan mix.
Sunday morning mix.
Bass torture tracks mix.
Etc etc.

BUT: When changing XX version, every time I have to find manually and copy/paste the playlist files. Maybe you could create a dediated playlist-folder, making it easier to copy and organize?

I must say ... I see similarities with what Edward experiences (0.9u-12 --> Hiccups and Clicks (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=479.0)) regarding his mentioned "long playlists". Maybe he means it differently ...

So far I always ignored the "long playlist" issue, because I couldn't make any sense out of it, but you seem to be kind of persistent in that it is related to that. And, in the end of course it is ...

It is, because the playlist has to be read from - and written to disk. This is done by a Windows feature which may cause unwanted overhead. Besides that, indeed (!) it is so that 0.9u-15 adds I/O that 0.9u-14 did not have (the caching of the (conversion) data).

All 'n all you will be 100% right.
I now think that Visa can't cope with the deletion/creation of files very well (with a playlist of, say, 200 entries, 200 files will be deleted-created respectively).

Question (for Edward as well if he reads this) : What would you consider a long playlist ?



I will do that.
And I am sorry that it works like this at this moment. I just never notice it because I always dump a new compiled version into the current folder (could be a 1000 times a day).


I have a tip for you too :
Swap the Sunday morning mix with the Bass torture mix. It could save you some spoiled beer. :yes:
But buy some extra eggs.
