Title: Creating new XXHE install on machine with XXHE already installed
Post by: briefremarks on October 08, 2024, 01:50:02 am
All,

I suspect I have messed up the XXHE install on the older Mach II machine I have.  I've been using this machine as a second system.  I have problems again with XXHE not loading the music root directory.  I can use the ... buttons on XXHE next to Music Root, and the network folders show up properly.  I am  able to select multiple music roots both on remote servers and locally.  BUT when I hit the "L" button, I just get a blue circle and after a while XXHE title bar goes white with a "...not responding" message.  I've tried everything.  Wondering if I should just try a new install from scratch and remove all previous XXHE related installs.  Wondering how best to go about this.

It definitely seems to be this instance of XXHE. I have XXHE installed on two other machines.  I have no issues loading the same music directory that causes a problem with the instance of XXHE on the Mach II.

Then I'd rather say it is the PC ?
(but this is a first quick response)

In the other topic about this (Problem with XXHE not loading directory (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=4512.0)), you mentioned that even with Explorer you could not access a particular folder. OK, you solved that by changing access rights, but ... WHY ?
So it is probably something in this realm. The OS on that PC is not right or different or ... the OS is just too different (like W11 or a too new 10).

Peter

Peter,

Thank you for responding.  I will investigate this further.  As it turned out, after I posted my last note, I just left XXHE open with the wheel spinning and after about an hour the directory loaded.  And now the loading is quick.  I do have a music directory that is very large with very deep folder structure.  Wonder if this might be causing a problem.

I'll keep at this.  Thank you again.  Sorry to be wasting time on this.  I have become so used to the XXHE/Phasure sound, that even with this second system (with the Linkwitz LX521), I find it so much better than the Classe SSP-800 and other player front ends.

Ramesh,

What you probably ran into, is just the building of the first time total structure. For me this takes an hour just the same. After this has been built, it is memorized (stored on disk). But also : newly added albums will only appear in that total list when it is rebuilt. This is a matter of asking for it via Search with no search arguments, tell it not to get from Tidal and some more; you will see it happening when the question appears : "Do you really want to ..." (and then mentioning the number of entries). This is to be answered by No, unless you'd explicitly want to rebuild it (and lose the PC for an hour or so).

Anyway, that was it ...

Peter
