Title: Intona alternative
Post by: listening on January 26, 2022, 08:08:09 pm
Hello all,
after I lent my Intona USB isolator to a friend (isolation of measuring devices), I looked around for a replacement. The parts from Intona came naturally first into question, when the same friend gave me the tip to look around once at Alldaq, there he would have wanted to buy his isolator for the measurement tasks originally. So we agreed that he would use the Intona isolator and I would test the Alldaq isolator to swap back later. The Alldaq isolator can do USB3 on both sides and has a separate power supply on the secondary side, to which I connected a linear power supply. On the primary side I connected a USB3 cable, on the secondary side a USB2 cable. I'll spare myself deeper descriptions here, as there is still a bit of long-term experience missing. Short and sweet: The Isolator stays here and is at least an equal alternative to Intona.

Hi there Georg,

Thank you for this.

I think it is a bit of a secret (two actually) that (the) Alldaq was what brought me to creating the Phisolator for the NOS1a/G3; let's say that I stole the chip(-idea) in there because it did not want to work reliably. A replacement by Alldaq also failed. I now know the misery around that chip (Silanna) because half of them don't work (well).

Second secret is that if I am correctly informed, the Alldaq USB isolator is EOL (End Of Life) which is fine if you can still get one, but which would be sad if people focus on that and ask it for Christmas 2022. :)

Btw, wasn't it you who came up with the Intona idea ? (maybe it was someone else). I still have S/N 000001.

Kind regards !
Peter

Hi Peter,
yes, I recommended trying the Intona Isolator. You were not so enthusiastic after the first tests, but you have fixed the weaknesses in terms of firmware together with Intona. It's been a while and many waves have washed up on shore in the meantime :-)
I think that the hardware of the Alldaq Isolator is now built differently, I found a PCB simulation on the net (@alldis.de). However, the galvanic isolation is still important and has a significant influence on the sound quality.
