Title: Dead?
Post by: Jack on April 08, 2021, 03:13:51 pm
Hi Peter & all
I have always left all my system on 24/7. We had a local power cut in the evening recently. Everything went off then maybe 30 mins later all back on except the PC which did not have restore power set in bios. Next day I turn on PC, load XX & get warning that a different sound source is now configured. So I turn DAC off & on & go through the setup procedure.
With switch 4 down & battery connected the interior lights up but there is no offset display showing, the dials are blank. I don't even know if the DAC is on! Is there an internal fuse that could have blown or some other circuit protection? If one of you could stop me from fretting it would be much appreciated...
Regards
Jack

Jack,

A simple thing that you've probably already checked.  Is the battery dead? Have you tried replacing it?

R.

Hi Jack,

Yes, in the power inlet two fuses reside. In the box your NOS1 was shipped with, you may find a couple of spares.

@Ramesh, your idea is good, but if the light lits, the battery won't be empty (the battery provides the light as well as the power to the meters).

Let me know how you fare, Jack.
Kind regards,
Peter

My first post on here so hello everyone, and my apologies to Jack, but his was the latest NOS1 Dac thread, so I hope you don't mind me asking a question.  I have just been to the Phasure Webshop and cannot see the NOS1 Dac for sale, has it been discontinued or just unavailable at the moment?  Not saying I'm buying one, it's over budget for me, but it would seem a very interesting option.  Think I'll stick around and look up so tips and older threads, thanks.

Jack, I hope you can get yours up and running again.

Hi there Antonio !

You won't find the more expensive hardware in the webshop BUT the Mach III in there I just put there for fun.

So easy enough : the NOS1 is still there, alive and kicking.
You may want to send me an email at sales phasure com and I will happily sell you one or two.
Or just answer your questions. :hips:

Kind regards,
Peter

All,

I just faced this exact situation. I keep the NOS1a, Mach III, and Orelos on 24x7.  Just had a power outage. Power came back on.  Mach III boots up and functions, NOS1 showing no signs of life.  Checked fuses (OK), replaced battery. With switch 4, light above offset indicators comes on and off.  But offset indicators are blank.  Nothing showing.  Wondering how to proceed next.

The good news is that everything is working again, after reconnecting and rebooting.  Except for the voltage offset indicators.  They are still blank.

Update.  Everything working now.  I changed the battery from a set of new batteries without first checking the voltage of the new battery.  It turns out the one I used was reading +5V instead of +9V. Changed to a proper new battery.  Offset indicators are working.  All good.  I have never used surge protectors with the audio system, because I was never able to find one that did not affect SQ.  Does anyone have good experiences with a surge protector?  Reliable power sadly cannot be taken for granted in California anymore.
