Title: No more Kernel Streaming playback for my device...
Post by: Gerardo on March 03, 2021, 11:23:51 pm
Hi everybody, I hope you're doing well in these complicated months.

I'll start by commenting that I've been enjoying XXHighEnd since 2012, and I used to enjoy the most, XXHighEnd version 2.10 with a 32bit/768kHz capable Bursonaudio Conductor 3R dac, https://www.bursonaudio.com/products/conductor-3/ on a Windows 10, Intel i7 8th gen.

Unfortunately in the last months of 2020, I became forced to install Zoom, activating once again OS and allowing myself to connect my music computer to the web.

Weeks later, I noticed that my output device, starting with the (KS) characters was no more present. In the past I was able to upscale up to 32/706KHz playback.
I feel partly frustrated because I enjoyed better that exact setting than the actual 352Khz my dac is receiving.
I suspect my Windows program updated itself in any of my sessions or while sleeping, even though I tried (at least) to forbid those automatic updates.

Lastly, up to this day I am only capable to find in the Windows sound manager that my "Burson Audio XMOS USB speakers" are only capable of 32 bit, 384000hz (Studio Quality) instead of their full potential.

I would be so thankful if any of You had the kindness for supporting me to bring back KS playback again.

Greetings, from Mexico

Hey Gerardo,

That sounds like serious BS.

To me it seems highly unlikely that an OS upgrade would be able to cause this. I am only saying : It would be good if your thinking is not in the direction of the OS having stopped support for 32/768 (702.5). These things won't happen.

It will merely be in the driver area of your 3R DAC, so maybe the driver got uninstalled or something. So the first thing you should do it reinstall that driver (uninstall it first if all seems to be OK in the first place).

Notice that the support for 384 you will see in your Audio Properties, is the maximum output sampling rate Windows supports Natively - generally through WASAPI. So yes, most probably you can use WASAPI (WDM) only. Otherwise what you see in the properties is not KS related at all (KS does not use the settings in there). With this I want to say : don't seek for the 768 number in there. Only seek for where KS went. OK, you *are* doing that of course.

Let me know how you fare.

Best regards,
Peter

Peter, thanks for your kind support.

I've just had access to the computer unit where I downloaded the same driver files in the past. I've uninstalled the previous ones, rebooted the system and installed the ones I retrieved. Rebooted again and physically connected the 3R, sadly still with no KS yet.

I'm actually experimenting with a borrowed SMSL m200 dac but also, with 32 bit/384khz limited upsampling inside XXHighEnd  (and no KS), even it's manufacturer states it has a 32/758khz maximum capacity.

Do You think installing ASIO4ALL could have any benefit at all?

Best regards,
Gerardo

Thanks Peter.

ASIO4ALL discarded.

I'll keep trying.

Just to be fair, I need to state, that even I'm experiencing the above issue, in my system XXHighEnd playback it's far better than Audirvana (via Mac) playing at 32/768 with the same dac and the same audio files.
