You could say that this is a kind of pulse width modulation, which is the worst case of a sigma/delta DAC. And I already don't like the latter ...
In the end this is related to the non oversampling principle (which e.g. sigma/delta cannot do). Let's say this is personal. Please keep in mind that this is different from "some" means that converts the DSD data to normal PCM and *then* convert it to analogue (which exists on some players I think).
