XXHighEnd

Hi Peter, am having disk space problems. When I'm booted into W10586 Base and right click on C Drive properties, it shows 12.6 gigs of disc space with 8.42 gigs used and 4.26 gigs free, which is fine. After booting the OS into RAM, C Drive properties shows 12.2 gigs of space used and only 425 MB free. Any way to fix this without reinstalling the W10586 Base OS?

This has been an occasional issue for me and I've only ever been able to fix it by reinstalling the OS. The problem, it seems, is  always (not sure) preceded by a particular file error that says that a particular DAT file needs to be removed.

and see whether that is a culprit and helps ?


If that is the case, this should reside in your XX folder; With XXHighEnd not running - If you'd sort on Size in there, there shouldn't be files larger than XXHighEnd.exe (which is 5MB or so) and of course the XXHighEnd .rar files you downloaded (~20MB). Anything else larger than this 5MB is suspicious; if you find some, just make a screenshot of the Explorer contents of those and we'll see how to deal with them ...

Thanks Peter. The AppData folder doesn't show up in my explorer, so I'm not able to get to the Temp folder described as a possible culprit. See picture below. This screen shot was taken in base/full OS.

Also didn't find any files that were too large in my XXHE folder.

It took me 10 minutes to find it again mysef.

First off, in the bar near the top, make sure that hidden items are visible (this is a checkbox - working upon everything, not only the current folder).

Now look below how you only see it sit in the right hand pane ...

Now double click that and only then you can see it in the left hand pane as well (could be a W10 quirck).

This still doesn't tell you have a lot of rubbish in there (mind is still clean after I deleted all in there, several months ago by now).

PS: Take care that you select the path step by step as you see it in the URL in the top.

Thanks, I had to check the hidden items box to see it; however, there were only around 200MB in the entire AppData folder and only 27MB in the temp folder. Any other suggestions? Appreciate your help. If necessary I'll reinstall the OS but will wait a day or so before I do.

Keep in mind : I didn't mean the literal "XXHE" folder as you see it in the screen shots. So just the "XX" folder as in \XXHighEnd\2.xx\

But otherwise I don't know !
Now suppose you copy back the OS file again (5 minutes) and you apply all to it as far as you can remember what to do (drivers etc.), then when all is running OK make a copy of the OS file (without being in the OS itself - so actually just as if you were to copy it back). Then next time it is just these 5 minutes the copy takes - done. But of course apply the current XXHighEnd settings.

I wish I had more hints for you !

Thanks Peter. Will definitely make a copy of the working OS file. One thing I was wondering though is if there isn't something corrupted on my RAM-OS disc that causes this to happen once every three or four months? Would it be worth sending you RAM-OS disc to have it reformatted? On the other hand, what's the cost of a new 500 gig 2.5" RAM-OS disc?

Brian, the "license" assumed present (which is your case), maybe 75 euros (this includes creating it). So no, really not worth sending it.

What could be worth while though, is if I connect to your Music Server PC (which in itself connects to the Audio PC with the OS of concern running in BASE) so I can try to find the cause. This may not be easy (because it could be anywhere, especially if you installed something which I may find all right but can not (should not) deinstall to check the then remaning space) but it could be worth a try. And also : that link to that folder containing 4GB was also not known and I actually still don't know how it happened (but that IrfanView could have done it when I tried to use it for a first time).

You are still on 10586.0 with that PC, right ? because if not, it is that ...

Thanks Peter, I'm still on the same pc (LGA 2011 ASRock X79 Extreme 4M). I can set the PC's up with Team viewer this evening. Do I need to be there while you are looking at it? Really, really appreciate the help.
