Title: Speed of Library function Post by: Gerard on February 25, 2008, 05:49:20 am Last night I saw the wait had more to do with waiting for my albums picture/selections to show up then it did explorer...(different folders with varying amounts of wavs would load faster/slower depending on how many albums where in folder/gallery). My largest gallery only takes a few seconds to load... no biggy. If I go to a folder with no wav folders... explorer window pops up quick. Peter, Do you think that in the end it can be done a bit faster? Meaning the loading in from the albums? Or is this the max? Or is this the max? :) Probably get faster as computers get faster... how longs it take for you? Usually just a couple seconds for me. My gallery is at about 2200 discs so far... Meaning that it is actief the whole time.... Or is that not good for the drive itself? :dntknw:

I have over 6000 albums in one "group" like Rock. When I access that for the first time, it indeed takes maybe 30 seconds to collect them. This is when nothing is in cache, so say the first time I do it after a reboot. Now, no matter what, when I go in there a next time (XX shut down and restarted and all) it takes less than one second. Even after a reboot. When I change to one of the others with, say, 400 albums in there, that again takes less than one second because it's so "few". When I then pop back to the 6000, it may take 5 secons because all is in the PC's cache memory. This is all from an IDE (PATA) drive (where I keep the Galeries), so it can be way faster when stored and used from a SATAII drive. I really don't need more speed ... What I can do though, is provide a checkbox that allows you not to count the number of albums in a folder. That makes it, say, 10 times faster ... (and you don't have the numbers) ... If you find yourself pressing the Search button, I think you do something wrong already. I mean, I *never* do it, because all works with "Active Search" (just kind of slowly typing in that area). The only thing is, sometimes it doesn't work properly, and then I back out a few characters, until I see "movement" in the Library Area again. And then type forwards again ... Could be Energy Saving Options somewhere, but it highly depends on ... things ? :swoon: I think software-wise I should be able to do all, but these things may be difficult to find and implement. I have it in mind anyway, like more tweaking with the Services and all. You know ... Btw, my drives spin up in approx. 10 seconds, and fall asleep in 10-20 minutes or so. Note that Vista Energy Settings have a high degree of instableness. I think most of that will be solved in SP1.
