Title: I just played a DSD track with XXHE! Post by: bodiebill on October 03, 2017, 10:41:33 pm Playing DSD with XXHE: I did not think it was possible, but it is!
I just did it. Can anyone guess how? I am sure Peter knows! (I must admit it wasn't my own idea.) Title: Re: I just played a DSD track with XXHE! Post by: PeterSt on October 04, 2017, 08:04:37 am Dennis, I most certainly can't !

I took a DSD file and used VinylStudio to convert it to DoP. This is not an actual conversion but a lossless re-packaging of the DSD. The DSD stream remains intact, although encapsulated in a WAV container. Then I played this 'WAV file' – so actually a disguised DSD file – with XXHE into a DSD-only DAC. At first there was no sound, but after putting the volume slider at 100% and removing upsampling: voilà, music! Does it make sense? I am thankful to pm325 on the ComputerAudiophile forum for pointing me into this direction. :) Dennis Title: Re: I just played a DSD track with XXHE! Just a very short first response : So it was very me who introduced DoP to "Miska" (of HQPlayer) and explained to him what to do with that. Mind you, nobody heard of that back at the time. It was regarded as a bit (haha) of fake, but, it worked. Btw, dCS invented it. And now you are telling me that out of all, me myself never understood it well, and that in 2017, 6 years after DoP saw light, XXHighEnd can just use that. :swoon: Peter :seeyou: Title: Re: I just played a DSD track with XXHE! Alas, there are only very few (and some somewhat obscure) tools that can pack DSD as DoP. VinylStudio works but is a little awkward as it is 'collection'-based and expects to work with existing albums. Maybe someone knows of any alternative? Dennis |
